Oh Erin! I love this book. It has been published many times since 1890. It has had several different illustrators, the first being Jessie Wilcox Smith. She is my favorite artists of the Victorian Era. I believe your book is the Tasha Tudor version and she was also such an amazing artist too. Loved this video so much!💖📖

@@sarahplamer7922 Thank you! 💖 It's about cat paintings in the 18th century in France and how the 18th century is a sort of turning point or rather a time of redemption for cats after they were associated with witchcraft in the middle ages and therefore often condemned to death as well. Before the middle ages cats were seen as symbols of fertility and motherhood and this notion slowly makes its return throughout the 18th century! There are really wonderful (and often funny looking) cat paintings by Jean-Baptiste Oudry and Jean-Baptiste Perronneau (somehow every french guy in this era was called some variation of Jean 😂) and later towards the beginning of the 19th century by Marguerite Gérard. One of my favourite paintings is The Angora Cat by Jean-Honoré Fragonard and Marguerite Gérard! Sorry for rambling on so much but I really love my topic 🥰
