I don't disagree with the whole idea of "never leave a cart unattended", but for anyone who goes to these bins outlets, pretty much across the country, understands that it is not only common, but typical to leave your cart on the perimeter. There just isn't enough room for everyone and their carts in the aisles. In fact, my nearest store has an area cleared specifically where 50-60 carts can be left while shopping. Obviously purses, children, car keys, etc don't get left unattended though. So I don't blame you AT ALL for leaving your cart. Most people abide by the same considerations, but not everyone. I probably would've just said "Excuse me, I think you accidentally took that (item) out of my cart" and usually most people would just give it back. If not, then I lose out. I feel it's like everything else in life, sure there's the risk and it sucks when it happens. Be frustrated, that's understandable, but don't let it spoil your fun. 💕

@@PrettyTattered - Another benefit for saying something is it serves as a warning to others to watch out for this person, and keep an eye on their cart. I wonder if they were new to the bins (hence them not hiding it, or buying it before anyone knew it was missing). Someone had a video last year, showing a woman shopping in everyone's carts while people were distracted digging in new bins. Depending on my mood, I would've either just reclaimed my sleigh, pay for it and whatever else I had so far, and locked it in my car. I would've told any regulars that I recognized to check their carts, and explain why (and who). My addressing the situation would've started with "the carts are stuff people have picked out already. shopping is done ONLY from these bins."

Good move! That happened to me at a regular Goodwill. Someone stole an item out of my cart when I parked it outside the door when I went into the bathroom. I was so mad that I left the store immediately after. I didn't want to confront the thief over a $3 thrift item. I learned ... whenever I have to go into the bathroom, I cover the contents of my cart with a large ugly blanket or piece of linen so no one can see what's underneath. You should do the same!

I did have a lady remove an item from our cart at one of our local St Vincent De Paul thrift stores and I took it our of her cart and told her that was my cart she got it our of. You can try putting some orange, like crime scene, on the cart. New people don't know the rules. When I first saw people leaving there, I thought I wouldn't leave mine. I have never been lucky enough to be to the bins, but I love watching. like you and your husband.

I've had people try to steal my cart when they needed a cart. I've caught people looking thru my cart. At my bins we've had all types of "stealing" - to outright stealing (from customers phone, PURSE)and the bins itself). It's not a good feeling, and I am sorry it happened to you two. The candle lamp(shade) is so pretty. I can see that in a cottage core, or farmhouse style home.

Similar thing happened to me at SA, I found a gorgeous mirror for a great price and it would not fit in the cart, staff said they could hold it at the desk while I shopped but they sold it to someone else instead. I was broken hearted. Lesson learned, now I’ll buy something large pack it in the car and go back in to shop. It’s a bummer that people have no respect.

Someone did that to me downtown. I went up and told them they took it out of my cart and then took it out of their hands and went on my way…some people are so rude at the bins but for the most it’s a great experience!

This happened to me at Target recently. Someone took my cart and it had my favorite LL Bean blue beanie in it. I searched the store for it, even looking on people’s heads. I exhausted myself looking for the cart and my hat, didn’t want to shop anymore. I did find it in a cart with things to be re-shelved by the help desk as I left. I know how you felt.

Employee are not supposed to remove carts with merchandise in it. I know because I used to work in retail. You don't risk upsetting a customer and possibly loosing a sale. I go to the Goodwill Bin in Bridgeton all the time. And I love being there to shop. I have seen some people leaving their carts like you do. I often wondered leaving the cart and shopping would be a little risky although most of the people are so nice about not touching someone else’s items. I really hate to hear that what had happened to you. My suggestion will be that you could put covers on your carts so no one can see what you are purchasing. I know we all are kind of trustworthy, so am I. ❤

We get so involved in the dig and there are so many people that it would be easy for someone to snatch something right out of our carts no matter how close we keep them. So sorry this happened to you, but glad you handled it well. I normally go to the bins with my mom and she sits and watches my cart as I dig. But right after the pandemic, I went by myself one time. Once my cart was full of goodies, I parked it by the wall with a large orange blanket covering it. After I dug some more and went to put more items in my cart, I walked over and saw that it was gone. I was LI-VID. Taking one or two items out of someone's cart is bad enough, but taking the ENTIRE cart is next level! I was on the verge of flipping out (full on loud, immature, unethical, immoral tirade), when something said, "Go ask the workers where your cart is." So I calmed myself and found a worker. Turns out, a worker had moved it to a different spot because I parked too close to the emergency exit 😕 Yeah, I was about to get myself a lifetime ban from the bins for no reason, lol

We shop this bins location all the time. That specific location is where people go through their carts to see what they don’t want and also plug up things to see if they work since Its right by the checkout. I’ve also seen employees dump unattended carts when trying to stay busy.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge but we've been going there for a long time and have almost always had a cart there. Normally the cashier keeps rude people away from it but this time, there wasn't anyone working that counter. Mainly, I always see people going through their carts in the corners where they can easily dispose of stuff they don't want back in the bins. True it is also where you can plug in stuff to see if it works but we've never blocked anyone from getting to it. Many people leave their carts there too. However, we won't be leaving a cart there anymore and we will be covering it up from now on. A lesson learned. 😊 Thanks for watching and see ya in the next!

I had to stop using a cart. Too many times people will just take your stuff. I was standing right right next to my cart and some old lady was literally grabbing stuff out of it. Another time a little kid kept on stealing stuff even after I told him not to. What could I do? Large bags only now.

I know people who cover their carts with a sheet or blanket. That probably helps, then there is no mistake that it wasn’t an abandoned cart or people just can’t see your goods. That’s pretty crazy someone would do that not knowing if you can actually see them. You were a bigger person than me but I would have gone up to her and gotten it back. I understand your thought process on it but I just can’t stand people like that OR maybe she was new at the bins and doesn’t understand how that works. Either way I definitely would have said something. I wouldn’t have been mean at least not at first. Actually the female started shaking and said "no...no" my husband put it in my cart", then wrapped her arms around her cart where the sleigh was, and she yelled at her husband and asked where he got it and he said, "she took it out of her cart and threw it in the bin", which I did not. And, I said if you want it so bad you would steal it out of someone's cart then just keep it. I wasn't going to fight them for it and make a scene that would ruin everyone's dig day.

I try not to leave my cart unattended or i cover it up. ive seen too many people get stuff stolen-including someone who got their coat stolen with their car keys in it. i would probably have gone to a manager and told them what happened.

The cart was left by the wall where people sort before they check out. I keep my cart with me so no one mistakes it for stuff I don't want. I do leave my cart at the end of the bin row if it is crowded, but not where people sort. I shop Bridgeton often and have never had a problem.

We are the only ones who sort there...lol There is not a specific sorting area like at the Market location. They have a table. I'm glad leaving your cart at the end of the aisle works for you but the carts left at the end of the aisles block people from searching the bins there. Sometimes the ends have so many carts you can't get around them to get down an aisle. No solution is perfect. We are all just trying to do the best that we can. I think I may have approached the person and explained to them that carts left at walls were not to be shopped from and said you may be new to the bins and dont know the rules. That was in my cart and im asking if I may take it back. They may have done it innocently but if they started making a fuss, I would have just told them well, im not going to fight over it and walked away. I love going to the bins I can stay all day but the closes one is 2 1/2 hrs away so we can only go 1x a month if we're lucky cuzz are kids & finding a sitter & I'm not going with 5 oh no lol ! I have had nothing stolen from my basket 1st thing I do is grab a basket & grab a sheet or blanket to cover my finds ! But I think I would of reported that person for taking your Sleigh if someone is caught stealing from other people's carts or gets to ruff pushing or fighting they are band from going back into the bins ever again ! I don't know what I would of done ? But if it was something I Really WANTED I would of said something ! Now that lil lamp you found I have the same exact one same color same design same distressing same everything & I also found mine at the bins too and l love it , it looks so.pretty with a candle lit up inside I've gotten many compliments on it ! Oh two and a half hours is an hour father away than ours. Our kids are grown so we are lucky there. I will start placing a blanket over our cart from now on. I hope that helps. I don't think it was deliberate. The cart was left where people sort and leave unwanted items. I put in my cart what I want. If I have to think about it, i leave it in the bin so I don't have to sort before checking out.

Well you did manage to find some great things, even if an awful person took your original treasures. Honestly I drag my cart with me for this exact reason. The only time I’ve had anyone go through my cart was when I went to the bathroom, I came out and saw someone trying on hats from my cart. He quickly put them back when I said “that’s my cart”. I think you showed great restraint, I would have been tempted to remove them and see if they said anything. Then showed them your footage of you picking them out of the bins.

I would not leave my cart. At the bins, it's a free for all. Many people dump their carts to the side with things they don't want when they are done shopping. I don't blame them for shopping from an unattended cart. It's not like the cart was right next to the bathroom and obvious someone would come back to it. Honestly, you can't leave your stuff anywhere at the bins without it being free for grabs. If everyone left their carts, what a disaster it would be.

Keep your cart next to you and write a review so others can watch thieves in that location. That bin place has cameras and they should have immediately assisted you to find out WHO the thief was. I definitely would not shop there again and would have definitely CONFRONTED that person and taken their photo. Shame on people who steal other people's cart items - they know how long it takes to find something good in the bins. Just shameless.

Never leave your cart on the side.Keep your cart with you. If you leave your cart on the side wall it would seem it was abandoned and the person left the store. Never heard of your way of thinking. Take it as a lesson to be learned.

We've been to Goodwill bins in other states and this is how it is done at all of them. Some even post it that if you tamper with people's carts or merchandise you will be banned. Again, we should respect others and their finds. Thanks for watching. See ya in the next.

Most people leave their carts at the store that I visit. There's no room to push a cart down an aisle, especially without blocking everyone else. Many people find a blanket and put it over their carts so that people cannot readily see what is inside. It's shameful for someone to raid another person's cart though.

NO NO NO you should have got an employee and confronted the person then showed your video to prove you had it first!!! And LOUDLY let the other shoppers know they broke a common unspoken rule among honest shoppers. Especially for what it was worth 🤬🤬🤬

I didn't show it on the video but I actually did confront them and not quietly but when they refused to give it back, I was worried I would get banned for making a fuss so I went to the glassware to cool off instead.
