Voitures sans permis I guess. Helping our neighbour learning to drive one deep in rural France, I took the controls to get us home and saw 75k p h before being accused of trying to blow it up. Amazingly un sound proofed.

I participated in a 24 Hours of Lemons race in 2009. A 24 hour endurance race for $500 cars. You'd think it would be crap, but it wasn't. One of the other teams there was the pit crew for the Pratt and Miller Corvette racing team! We ended up getting hooked about 45 minutes in and slamming the left front into the wall. We fixed it, sort of, and ended up finishing the race and getting the trophy for the Most Heroic Comeback.

tvc citamoirav im still sad that CVT's got downgraded that bad, basically they needed to add the feeling of shifting so they were less fuel efficient then automatics while if there wasnt that feeling they were way more economical. DAF still exists btw, it makes trucks but sadly it doesnt make cars anymore

There's definitely the Power Racing series with their Powerwheels. 24 Hours of Lemons is definitely a top contender. Snowmobile racing has been around forever. Lawn Tractor racing is quite popular, even taking place in the Canadian snow. There's also Skid Plate racing that's perfect for a lot of laughs. And there's Piaggio APE racing in Italy. In the US they have Mud Bogging, tractor pulls, combine harvester demolition, dirt track (where the cars have no transmission), school bus figure 8 track racing and probably a lot that I don't know about.

We decided to leave LeMons because at the end of the day, it's racing some cars around a track, just very low quality ones. Ape racing though, that's on the next list.

Here's one for you guys... Power Wheels Demolition Derby. US demolition derbies are rather different from European ones (there's no pretense of it being a race like in banger racing), and usually have a series of heats to set the field for the main event, with various forms of entertainment between heats while they clean up the arena. Apparently, one day, a professional(!) demolition derby driver's five-year-old son demanded that Daddy let *him* drive in a derby, and wouldn't take no for an answer. His response was to organize a demolition derby for five-year-olds, using Power Wheels toy electric cars (basically, the same as the Barbie Jeeps you mentioned), and hold it as a between-rounds entertainment event at a regular derby. This was shockingly popular, and as a result, it's become a common feature at US derbies ever since.

I actually attended a Power wheels/Barbie Jeep downhill race in North Carolina a few years back and it was one of the funniest damn things I've ever witnessed.

One of the craziest is motorcycle chariot racing, which is from Australia. It is exactly what it sounds like: a chariot with two motorcycles instead of horses, controlled with reins by someone standing in the chariot. Yes, there is footage of this. Travis Pastrana has done some crazy races at his place and at Woodward, where they race pitbikes, and it often ends in injury and carnage.

At my local Country Fair, we have Combine Derby, it's a Demolition Derby with Combines instead of Cars and Trucks. It takes place on a Horse Racing Track.

One of the cheapest forms of motorsport here in the US is HooptieX. It's a sort of rallycross time trial with a $500 budget for the car. Since you only have one car on the track at a time, all you need for safety is a fire extinguisher and a helmet. I used to have an old 2wd Nissan hardbody with the 5-speed that was loads of fun to take to those.

Reliant racing is not extinct - King's Lynn and Mendips stock car raceways still run them regularly, among others. And I can possibly help with reopening the Reliant factory, given that for a time it was in my home town!

As a Dutchie I don’t believe the backwards races were ‘DAF only’, however, a lot of the competitors and winners were DAF because of the variomatic And furthermore. You called variomatic another term for CVT, but I do believe it’s an DAF invention (correct me if I’m wrong!) and CVT is actually another name for Variomatic

3 wheel racing could use modified low power motorcycles to make up for the deminishing amount of production cars with a missing wheel. just make the rear axel 2 wheels. define the maximum engine power and minimum weight+height and you could rebuild the race class

If you can watch it, I seriously cannot recommend British Touring Cars enough if you're bored of F1. It's so much closer (you quite often get the top 20 cars covered by a second in qualifying) and its just so much more exciting. Also there's only 23 points covering the top 4 in the championship with only 2 weekends left.
