It’s crazy to compare the mall in 2013 to the same mall 11 years later!

there was a Montgomery Ward at town west, until they went bankrupt. Wal mart and amazon had a lot to do with mall's losing tenants. Another interesting thing the property tax on that mall is over six hundred thousand dollars a year. so, if owners are looking for a tax loss, I believe they have a good one.

Every time I’m in there (usually to visit Vintage Stock), I wish I could brink my roller skates and skate around since it’s so empty.

Wichita, Kansas is simply not big enough for two malls, with virtually the same shopping centers. You have far more options and activity at Towne East than West - hell, they have a Scheels now. That said, there are plenty of opportunities for the available space at Towne West that benefit everyone. A friend of mine was the general manager of 5 retail stores a few years back. They had one in Salina, at Towne West, in East Wichita, Hays, and Manhattan. Then in 2017, the store didn't pay a lease at TW. He has no idea how it stands now since he's no longer with the company. According to him, Towne West was a DRAG to work at and with. It USED to be a very robust mall with high quality walkers and accessibility for the handicapped, though, and while there are some real good and hard-working folks who outright owned their businesses, a lot of these companies were sold on the location before they really knew the location. I wish every tenant there at TW the best, but I genuinely hope this place gets demolished in the coming years to be replaced with something more economically and socially viable.

Funny we supported two malls just fine for 40 years, this is largely the result of ownership shenanigans but sad either way
