If bass eat head first, having the hook in the mouth seems less effective than having the hook under the dorsal fin. Edit: after watching Jon miss two fish that pulled his bobber under, I’m convinced hooking under the dorsal fin is more effective for a set hook.

Fish your pond more thoroughly with the minmows you catch, if you arent catching to many bass then add a couple so they can even out the bait fish ratio and the bass will grow huge really fast cuz of how much they can eat
