This is IT! You've articulated what I've always felt was important about software that people are expected to use. I hope all software development teams will watch, but most of all business executives need to realize just how harmful to their bottom line a few 'stupid' GUI elements really are. Your design principles are so awesome and applicable to more then just the GUI Thank You!!!

This really opened my eyes. I never really cared about the design, as I am a developer, but now I'll pay more attention. It also gave me great ideas and change the perspective with which I look at interface.

Have you even read the Android Developer Guide? I didn't need Google to explain these principles to me, but they summarize things pretty well, and they actually show how they apply to UIs. So yes, it is tightly related to implementation.

wow..this was a super awesome design video ! im a developer and i never ever looked and thought of design in this way.. i never knew small subltle things as a toast could effect the user's experience so much.. just after 41 minutes im alerdy able to see so many things that are wrongly done in my app and so many things which can be done better ! These design principles are truly golden ! Thankx a lot... !

I think this is really cool. I love how deep you guys are going into the design process. It kind of shows how deep you have to go when design functions with code. I'm an Android user myself. Very funny thing is i am always just playing with the last screen animation lol. Like i'll hit it maybe 50 times. But in reality, this is because i'm so used to apples inertial scrollings and rubber band effect. You guys just implemented a different animation to work around it.

comma means pause, "Search or say Google" feels awkward without the pause. "Search, say Google" is a sequence. Hence, "Search, or say Google".

If what you meant is that they don't apply their principles themselves, I disagree. Unlike you, I find most Google products' UIs pretty user friendly. I don't know if it's a matter of opinion, but I'm interested in knowing what you don't like exactly in their UIs.

Android is a far more feature-rich and robust OS than iOS so it uses more power. Also, HTC may be using less powerful batteries, though i dont know for sure as i dont own one or care to look it up.

sorry... i switched from iPhone to HTC One 18 days ago... the thing this phone does best, is to suck power faster than i can charge it. activating Google Now will cause 5000 wakelocks every 10 hours, which in effect means that total battery life is 12 hours...

Ok now that i contributed to a worse Web experience let me comment about the presentation on top of my imaginary high horse. Apart from the "feelings", "emotions" and other soft sciences lingo which is always a tough sell for this desensitized crowd, the part where they switch the copy for the interactions with the user was REALLY good.

Android is an OS without control, yes... which result in apps and features sucking all the power they want out of the phone... regarding features, i seem to miss a lot of essential features that i had on iPhone and some that are also found on Windows Phone... - 100% Backup & Restore (like found in iTunes) doesn't exist OOTB - VPN doesn't work with Microsoft Servers - Destructive lock is missing - CPU management is piss poor - etc. might be HTC's fault i donno

that will not happen. I am sure with that. Not going native has a couple of advantages: - running on any chip Android Apps can run on ARM; Intel; Mips , without recompiling - having a simple and fast jit .. dalvik is known to work very well - tons of Java devs out there. it's industry standard .. disadvantages - always slower than native - Java syntax .. but who cares.

Stop being delusional. The only reason Android is successful is because it's cheap and (mostly) open-source. Your self proclaimed "designers" have made a poor job. The SDK is awful and includes parts of the awful Java API. Not enough to be compatible but enough to be be sued. Please fire some people and accept native development on Android as first class or be prepared to lose all your goodwill.
