I'm in the market of buying a 10" or over tablet, so far I guess the best tablet this year is the Surface pro 4. I'm an apple fan but didn't like the iPad Pro nor do I like this Pixel C Anyone have any other suggestions?

If you need the tablet to change your primary laptop/PC, the Surface 4 is the best for you. But if you the tablet for light use or only for social use, just buy this one !

Kevin Koesoemo I have a 13" macbook pro retina but when i traveled with it I felt it was too big to pull in and out while sitting in an airplane and I barley used it in my 2 month trip , most of the time i found my self using my phone for Facebook, youtube and reading emails thats when I thought i need a tablet, something i could pull out and in easily and able to do by day to day internet usage while traveling not sure if the Surface will solve this for me.

I think this will be a good tablet for for the Android faithful. I don't see this device converting anyone from a different platform until some of the software changes catch up as you were saying in your review. As always, thank you for the great product review!

Rumors says that it was supposed to be a chrome OS tablet, because of all this chrome branding on it, and it's a bit nonsense to make a tablet that is not a nexus from google. Apparently it was a last minute decision to put android over chrome OS, therefore the lack of multitasking options.

***** not really, it's the opposite, it shows that google doesn't need any other OEM to make great hardware. The pixel C has by no means bad hardware, it's probably the most well made tablet google has ever released, and no OEMs made it, like all other nexuses. The problem is all in the software. Stock android has little to no multitasking optimization. Even iOS has multitasking options on their iPad like multiwindow and the surface has them all, since it runs windows 10 . In my opinion, google should focus on multitasking in android N and they should've released the tablet with it. I would still pick this tablet over other android tablets, since all this shitty skinning from all OEMs ruins the experience, samsung and LG being the worst.

+bompf we don't get paid, it's simply because the surface runs a full flegged computer OS with pretty much no compatibility issues with programs, so that you can use it like a full PC in a tablet, compared to apple's and google's offering, which runs a mobile OS, limiting you in program and option compatibility, for a close to similar price. The surface is basically a PC in a tablet and the ipad and other android tablets are entertainment machines that try to do the same thing. A tablet with a mobile OS will never have the same capabilities of a surface, which makes it more appealing to students and business people.

+Apple In what way? IOS doesn't have half of the features Android does. It doesn't even have a flippin file-system. I have an iPad Pro, I really dislike it, first, over 80% of the apps I've installed don't even support the Pro's resolution, instead they're pixel doubled, these unsupported apps don't even use the default keyboard. Next, that great dual app view everyone is taking about, only about 140 apps out of a million plus actually support it as of right now. The second I enabled multi-Windows in Android 6, which takes all of two minutes to do, every single app supported it. The iPad Pro has one of the worst external display support I have ever seen, the aspect ration, not supported, the resolution, not supported (granted, I have a 4K monitor but my Pixel C had zero issues it, looks perfect), the desktops DPI was huge and cartoonish looking and it only supported mirroring, no extending the desktop so the iPad Pro's display was useless. Though the iPad Pro doesn't;t even support a mouse, so the whole point of connecting a monitor was pointless. I couldn't run a single app in the background, so when I streamed a video to my TV, I couldn't use the tablet at the same time. My Pixel C, I can download a file, encode a video file, stream a movie and play a game all at the same time, with zero lag. GOing back to the way iOS manages it's files, I seriously have never seem anything like it before, my Psion 5 MX from 2000 had a better file-management scheme than the iPad Pro. The most annoying thing however was to open a file in another app other than the one you used to create the file, you had to use a function that every other OS uses to post content to the web, Share, iOS's uses Share as a system function and the only means to open local files, not only that but every time you shared a file, it creates a copy, my system is littered with copies of copies. The list just goes on and on and on... Apps, this BS about Android not having any decent apps is completely false, I'm running the same exact apps I did on my iPad Pro, now on my Pixel C. Yes, there are a few that aren't available but I found more than decent alternatives to those and because I have an actual file-system, in which all of my apps are in a central location, can be accessed by every app, open/save directly to my cloud services, NAS, FTP, computers on the network, the experience is 100x times better. Plus I can connect my monitor, mouse, keyboard, even a Bamboo board and use the Pixel C as a editor computer. Also because I'm running Linux in a Chroot under Android, I have installed all of my favorite Linux desktop apps, so I have Android apps, Linux Apps and Cloud apps. There is absolutely nothing I can't do on my Pixel C, nothing. The iPad Pro is not a Pro machine, it is not a laptop replacement, it's just a larger iPad, meant for the general consumer who really doesn't know any better, Apples bread and butter. So when I hear, the iPad Pro is better, without listing a single item as to why, I just assume it's another programmed consumer who buys what the market trends tell him to. It's so shiny though, your paying 3.5x the amount of actual production costs for that. Food for thought, a Xiaomi Mi4c costs the same to make as an iPhone 6s, one costs about $800 dollars, the other $300. Buying a popular brand of anything is the dumbest purchase you could ever make, especially one from a company that doesn't even allow you to select your own default apps. Yep, I bought an iPad Pro, yep, I'm a complete moron for doing so. The reviews for the iPad Pro were great, it tuned out to be crap, the Pixel C reviews were horrible, turned out to be the best tablet I've owned in a very long time. I will never again make a buying decision based on a review ever again, I'm just going to buy multiple devices and keep the one I like, return the others.

I feel like with a few software updates the Google Pixel C could be one of the best hybrid tablets on the market. Whoever purchases one now will be ahead of the curve and won't regret it in the future. This seems like the calm before the storm. And once these updates arrive a lot of opinions will change for the positive.

+AngryPenguin27 Because all prior Android tablets (except the new Sony Xperia Z4, IMHO) kinda suck in terms of quality. HTC's Nexus 9? Meh. Plastic, creaky, not really that great. Other than that, Android doesn't really have a good track record for tablets, unless you love bloatware from Samsung. When I saw the release of the Pixel C, it was the first time I legitimately thought, "Wow, now that's a nice Android tablet I'd actually buy." I think if they're making Pixel their new in-house line like Microsoft is doing with Surface, it makes sense to me.

Hey Mike, you say that it offers no quick way to multi task but I have to let you know that the Alt Tab function works great if you have the keyboard and it's really speedy and quick. I use it between documenting things and replying to emails and text messages and the Alt tab makes it really speedy!

I think you did it really quick. you should have done it much more elaborately such as real life battery life tests, more intensive performance tests, specific uses with that tablet and keyboard and the screens awkward aspect ratio and how it effects our consumption.
