I dislike the pay wall (or curtain) because it seems like the good stuff must be kept for that. Not that the free hour isn't good, but the _really_ good stuff you have to pay for.

Tyler asks great questions that allow the person answering to speak in depth, at least 90% of his podcast is the other person speaking.

All of the talk about Biden's stumbling over words ignores the fact that he's a stutterer, and every time he speaks he has to pause now and then to find a way around the stutter. I've been relatively shocked that the Press has ignored all of this, stutters are often thought of as being unintelligent because of their pauses with words but of course it's not true

rest in power, Aaron. a heroic act of supreme courage & sacrifice. conditioned ego-centric american thinking cannot comprehend such a connection to the rest of humanity.

Seriously, Robert? You decided to debate his sanity? You chose to address the most volatile issue of the moment and confirmed your unpreparedness by deciding to take on the one conversation for which you were both unqualified: because you have no clinical experience and because you had no access to the subject. You simply exchanged your biases for entertainment (though that goes back to the "what is a good podcast" discussion). Disappointing to say the least. And as for determining "insanity by virtue of inutility", as Mr Bloom suggested, it was clear the man's objective was visibility - the promotion of an idea, not geopolitical leverage ("he was nuts because he expected to produce world peace" is simply a childish and annoying thing to imply). The million upon million of shared posts indicate that to suggest otherwise disqualifies Bloom as a useful interlocutor, on this subject at least. I would have expected something as fatuous to generate more combustive pushback.

People compare this case to that of the Buddhist monk but they're really not all that similar... It makes rational sense for a Buddhist monk to self-immolate in protest for 2 reasons: 1) an ordained Buddhist monk has taken vows of pacifism; he is therefore disallowed from forms of protest as might result in harm to others. 2) the final and desired state of the Buddhist monk is to reach full understanding of the illusory nature of existence and sever himself from it, by disincorporating via ritual self-starvation (I know I'm being unnecessarily wordy but the algorithm gets weird around this topic). It's not such a great leap from [disincorporation via self-starvation] to [disincorporation via self-immolation]. If he is going to disincorporate anyway then it doesn't really matter how it's done, so long as the vows of pacifism are upheld and no others are harmed in the process. As far as I've heard on this topic, Aaron is not a Buddhist, nor has he articulated anything like Buddhist beliefs. So the Buddhist rationality doesn't apply here. Moreover, adding to the irrationality of the act for Aaron, since Aaron was at the time of his passing an active US serviceman, he would have taken vows which require him to defend the US Constitution. Self-immolation requires breaking his vows, because his state of being post-immolation is less suited to defending anything than as he was pre-immolation.

Look at these fools... Today, having a conscience and a heart, seems to be strange, so strange for your kind of heartless people, you would categorize this heroic act as illness. It's a sick world - but I'm not part of it! ❤
@richardcarpenter63898 ай бұрын
Are the fools Robert and Paul? Not sure you heard the whole discussion? They very much acknowledged the conscience and heart, and discussed the possibility of mental illness, but Robert especially did not categorize him as mentally ill.

A life sacrificing act, expressive to some degree of a positive goal in the mind of the actor. I don't think it should be beyond examination just because of stated positiveness. Brought to mind the life story of George Price as told in "The Price of Altruism"...and the questions raised by that journey. Such judgement aren't always a clear binaries.
