yeah he 100% solved this problem already. In fact this is a famous problem. No one will be able to solve such questions if they have never heard of DP or Memoization etc. System is designed so you spend time preparing. Its not about evaluating problem solving skills, but to check whether you are willing to work hard and maybe do stuff that you might not like because at the job also you might have to deal with tasks just because your manager told you to do or PO promised it to stakeholders. These tasks could be useless and might not bring any value eventually. Companies are trying to see if you have the corporate skills, not problem solving skills.
