if I may add, in my experience sometimes data is not this clean. Perhaps users manually inputted their language. In such case I would first check distinct languages, to rule out the possibility of French and Francais or Spanish and Español or Espanol being counted as different.

Good point. Maybe for this case, users were only able to select from a set of given language options.

in this case, we can use regex to match the patterns we want.
