Google Translate 2018: Instant Interpreter!

That's what i was looking for. I saw this on TV on Beyond 2000 show in 2007. They were talking about a device that does this, but not google. So at last now, google came up with this app. Now all i need to do, is to download the app on my mobile, and off i go. You don't need to learn the language anymore, they used to say, language becomes a thing of the past. Thank you google, and thank you very much Dotttech !

And all this time, I thought Google Translate was only available via the web interface. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I traveled to Spain, China & Brazil (party central there lol) and always used the web interface to translate. I didn't know this is available as an app at all (quoting Flo from Good Times, "DAMNNNN! DAMNNN! DAMNNN!" 😂😂). I downloaded it and I will explore this one. It's DOPE! LIT! DA BOMB! Downloaded Google translate before seeing this & used the camera scan for the 1st time today. Very pleased as them I could email the saved text to my gmail & then print it out. A fantasic time & effort saver to enable me (despite a few oddly translated words), to annotate & ensure I fully understand any docs from the authorities here in France. This video explained further the 'on the spot, translation ability, when in conversation..Really worth having. 4/5. Thanks !

I totally agree with you. Google Translate is a godsend! It even works with much harder languages like Russian and Chinese. My experience is that it works best when one of the languages is English since that is its base language. So, even I am Dutch, I always use English-Russian / Russian-English and never translate from Dutch to Russian. The instant translation of websites is great too. Now we can even browse Chinese or Korean websites and understand them.

Steve - another really great and well-packaged video!! It is especially useful for reading menus. Thanks for reminding me about some of the features -- especially the conversation mode. Glad that you were able to open the grapefruit. Our upcoming pleasure trip will be mostly in Germany but will include a side trip to Barcelona (Catalan, not Spanish), Madrid (Spanish), Lisbon (Portugese), and we will probably attend an Italian opera. (I haven't figured out the last one yet since it will be in Barcelona and the supertitles will be in Catalan!!)

Here I am in Valencia Spain and have a ragging sinus infection which took me to the Doctors. I used this app to be able to read all the instructions that came with the medicines that were prescribed for me. The nuance of the instructions would have been lost if I had not seen how to use it on Steve's You Tube instructions.. Thank you so much

Partly because you got so excited about the functionality of course (glad to see I'm not the only one), but mainly because I wasnt aware that Google translate has gotten so fancy lately. It's still crap for languages like Chinese or korean. It works best with languages with simpler languages like Spanish or French.

I saw this earlier on a Japanese/Amercian introducing a manufacturer's (Langogo tranlator) and comparnig it to Google's verson. They both were pretty accurate. ...and this is why I am watching your youtube to see how to download the correct one. Langogo was $269 versus' FREE from goggle. No brainer. You should test it w/ sayings like, "It's raining cats and dogs" Sometimes it will not work or moreover give you something totally different meaning. Also, you should for shit and giggles do curse words too! You know, most people learn the curse words in languages first. LOL!

I also have a Google Translator, but I use it for quick translation in the text on WhatsApp because I don't know perfect English and my friend doesn't know Polish, so this translator helps me in touch.

Oh and a heads up of which languages do not have speech output (audio) would be nice for the phone version. You can hear somebody speak French but not Hebrew. What's up with that?

I have used this app in the nursing homes that I have worked. There have been days where I needed to translate 3-4 languages for different people to get them to do their exercises. Usually it is very good. Unfortunately some of the residents have not seen or used a smart phone. They will stop talking and just stare at the phone. Very frustrating! Another situation that came up is that there is Chinese and simple Chinese. But I can't tel which is Mandarin and which is Cantonese.

Google translate; when using "Conversation" rotate the phone to horizontal and the translation will appear in large letters in a full screen, this so your foreign friend can see the translation, viola!!!! (enjoy your videos)

Technology has made exploring the BIG WORLD without privileged class income a lot easier . And it has made studying any foreign language a lot more fun than you might remember in FIRST YEAR FRENCH or FIRST YEAR GERMAN or even FIRST YEAR LATIN. I have been familiar with Google Translate for years . As a student of Western Civilization I wanted to have at least some basic familiarity with the major European languages , especially those derived from the all conquering LANGUAGE of the Empire of Rome - ancient Latin . While studying Spanish at the Community College of Rhode Island a hundred years ago I had this inspiration for making vocabulary study more interesting . At the Rhode Island College Library I browsed a Spanish Dictionary itself written in the Spanish language. Just like our better English dictionaries it showed the mostly Latin derivations of everyday Spanish words in brackets. This habit of browsing in dictionaries meant for native speakers became quite mesmerizing . It made vocabulary learning in the Romance languages more interesting and there were numerous connections between common Spanish, Portuguese , French , and Italian words AND the more sophisticated English language words -the king likely to appear on a SAT college entrance test Finally, out of curiosity I looked for an All-German dictionary . At first German words seemed impenetrable -even though early English was more closely related to German than to Latin . But it became clear that the Germans were very good at building words with strictly GERMAN roots. I won't pretend to know more than I do about any language . But I know that technology has made it a lot less tedious to learn the basics of any language that really interests you. But YOU must supply the needed CURIOSITY . What I discovered last night while sitting on the steps of the Knightsville -after my routine " Twilight Walk " is pictured below : Knowing very little German I went to an on-line German tabloid . A " camera " icon at GOOGLE TRANSLATE enables you to instantly translate the headlines and story summaries. I tested the translations on Spanish and I concluded that translations were at least fairly good. This device would seem right out of Science Fiction in the 1950s and 1960s. And just possible in the 1990. One revelation from this marvelous GOOGLE TRANSLATE tool. : " PEOPLE ARE ALIKE EVERYWHERE ! " . I recall a Twilight Zone episode ending on that sad note.

It's a good app, if you have wifi or data. After I downloaded 2 languages for "offline" mode and turned off internet connection, the conversation and (mic) for voice translate mode was grayed out. When I pressed it, it gives a message "this feature is not available in offline mode". I liked the app much that I searched for a Pro version and willing to pay for it, but it's not available, just yet.
