📖 Google UX Design Certificates: imp.i384100.net/jro1vb 📚 Coursera Plus: imp.i384100.net/Py3aPM 📄 UX Designer Roadmap PDF (Free): alienacai.gumroad.com/l/uxroadmap ✨ Fast Track UX Course: fasttrackux.com In 2021, I took the Google UX Design Certificates and made a series of review videos on them over the years. Since then, I've landed a role at eBay and expanded my network in both the tech and design education spaces. I'm extremely grateful that Coursera and Google released such a great educational resource, which significantly boosted my career. However, I've observed a few gaps as the design field has evolved over the years and has become increasingly competitive. This is an honest video on my opinion of the Google UX Design Certificates in 2024. For those of you who are curious or are taking the certificates, keep going! However, please set realistic expectations and understand that this is just the first step in becoming a designer. The joy is in the journey.

Thank-you for this breakdown. I recently completed both my UX Design and Data Analyst courses for Google but was curious if both certificates were enough to get your foot in the door. It seems like they are a good starting to point…..but may not be enough to get your foot in the door depending on what job try to obtain. I haven’t had any luck securing another job but hope that changes soon.

Same for me. I put it on the back burner and have since done an AWS Bootcamp. I can't get a Cloud based role either but I didn't think I would as I don't have the experience yet. I have a question about you saying that we can label ourselves as a Senior Designer. I'm currently working on a project and I'm applying the double diamond framework to use as a cast study. I've worked as a web designer for about 3 years self-employed/employed and I'm also planning on re-designing a previous project if It might help. A bit impatient haha. Would 1 case study for UX with numerous of past projects highlighting UI be enough to get interviews for a Senior Web Designer role?

Senior != Quantity of projects to show. A senior should: be able to lead a team have deep knowledge of the craft have strong communication skills be confident in mentoring juniors to intermediates navigate serious office politics time management sales skills A junior position is often misunderstood as something that is low quality and often easily pushed aside. It is not..one should have all the skills that one would associate with a UX designer and beyond. Titles are all tied to money on many peoples minds, and that is a vital flaw.

Okay, that's good, but for a beginner and broke? I'm a graphic designer originally, and I've been designing UI since my teenage years without realizing that this was a real field, I was doing it for fun. But.. when I studied graphic design and then went to the job market, I discovered that there was nothing in the world of graphic design (like logos, prints...etc) suit me, and I didn't see myself in it. So I wanted to go back to what I was trying to do and enjoy it But I don't even have a dollar in my pocket. The internet is free here, the phone is 5 years old, and I lost my job before I had any money to learn. I guess all I have now is the internet to search for free resources to learn, at least in the beginning.

The course is available on the official Google channel on yt if I’m not wrong. But there are no exercises available for you to test yourself. I've been in UI/UX and Product Design for 8 years now but my career has mainly been focused on UI. Would you recommend the Google Certificate to someone whose looking to get better at UX? Focusing on the end to end process.
@AlienaCai2 ай бұрын
It might be a bit too entry level for you. Feel free to check out my course: fasttrackux.com I teach how design is done in bigger tech companies like Google and Meta - it's more end to end. But I think you are looking for "Product Designer" not "UX designers" - as the UX title tend to be reduced to visualizing PM and business owner's idea rather than the end to end process like you said.

Hi Aliena, I’m a UI Frontend Software Engineer in Big Tech, joined as a New Grad in Aug 2021. But I realized as I worked with the UX teams often, that I’m a better designer than a coder. I started doing the Google UX Design Certification, do you think I can apply for non early career UX Design roles? Or should I stick to Early career ones?
@AlienaCai2 ай бұрын
Oh congrats on getting into big tech!! If your case don't take the Google UX certificates 😅 Because it's not how big tech does design, it teaches tech academic way of doing design. I would suggest you to check out my course: fasttrackux.com It may take some time to transition to a UX (we call it product designer now) design position in big tech. Don't quit your job yet! Try to work more closely with designers and see if you can do some projects in house, and then you can apply for a non-early career, sometimes even mid-senior design role. Early career roles are pretty much gone in UX.

I did this and in my opinion it's 100% theory and will not get you a job. There were no practical exercises, what would help you create a portfolio (in Udemy courses you are forced to do a Figma project along with the teacher, which you can later on use in your portfolio). A lot of exercises were pre-made which means you can't try it on figma or anywhere. I think this course is only for beginners, who don't know anything about UX and want to learn the foundations of UX principles like you are learning a language and you are learning grammar or alphabet.

What’s the name of the udemy course
@BattleMachine20073 ай бұрын
Did it change then? Because when I did it years ago, you absolutely had to do a project, with research, presenting a working prototype and then even building a portfolio website in the end. They even give you a Figma student 2 year trial, which helped me build multiple projects. Also after years of Product Design, this is the only course that actually taught the UX Research part down to the letter, and not just User Interface like 90 percent of other courses.
