Throughout time, humans have created more and more effective ways to communicate with each other. But technology hasn’t quite made it there with flowers, even though it’s no secret that members of the floral world do talk to one another. Scientists have found that plants use their roots to send signals to neighboring plants, as a means to maintain their security and wellbeing.
The ability to speak with tulips comes with great environmental and societal benefits. Tulips now have a way to indicate to humans that they’re in need of water, light or simply some more space. As their needs are expressed more clearly, they are able to live a happier and healthier life.
Socially, it turns out that plants, and particularly tulips, are very chatty, and make for great friends. Tulips are excellent listeners and when listened to carefully, give sound advice.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Google Tulip was largely developed and tested in the Netherlands, a country that produces 12.5 billion flowers a year. In particular, the Dutch are world renowned for their tulips, and even have a world-famous flower park, called Keukenhof, which provided the perfect testing ground.
Google is uniquely positioned to solve the challenge of speaking with plants. Building on an advancement called Neural Machine Translation, we worked with Wageningen University & Research to map tulip signals to human language. After two years of training, we were finally able to add Tulipish as a language to Google Home’s recently introduced Interpreter Mode.
Google Tulip is only available on April 1, 2019. Look for it on your Google Home device, simply by saying, “Hey Google, talk to my tulip.”

The amount of effort invested into this is insane. Congratulations, team. I am an Indian and an avid reader of Satyajit Ray's work. I would like to believe you're familiar with Ray. He's awarded the Oscar in 1992 for lifetime achievement. Anyway, this whole concept of communicating with plants via a "machine" and their silent cries being recorded was originally conceived by Ray in one of his Professor Shonku stories. It's incredible because it's a science fiction story written back when science and technology didn't skyrocket.

I love how they do have a tiny part which is real in every april fool's video. For the self driving cycles, they featured the Find My Device technology in the cycle, in the windmill one, they mentioned the Google Cloud Platform, and here, they featured Google Assistant. How smart!

My mother has dementia and I've been trying to use technology to help manage her condition. I've got her a smart phone to play her oldies music and a smart TV because over-the-air broadcast programming was getting impossible. However, even these devices are technologically challenging for her because she can't remember which way to swipe, or how to apply her fingerprint to unlock the home screen and forget about the password (no pun intended). Recently we got a Google Home device and so far, it's been good. It speaks Dutch to her (my mom is Dutch), and helps her make local and long distance calls. It also reminds her to feed the cats, tells her jokes, keeps her shopping list, sets up appointment reminders and tells her what day it is when she's confused. Her condition is tough on the entire family, but for her, she often presents behaviors that indicate she's scared, angry or frustrated about what's happening. But when this video showed up in her KZbin recommendations this April Fool's Day, she realized she was being pranked and laughed her ass off. Dementia is not a joke, but I'm glad my mom could still find a way to make light of a tough situation.

nikola master It is in many ways obviously a joke, but to be honest, most are pretty difficult to see/hear. But yeah, this is not real at all, it was uploaded on April first (April fools). Google does a joke video every April fools, probably the only thing I like from google apart of the search engine and KZbin.
