It annoys me when people slate Joe about his upbringing and that he went to private school. Yeah im sure if he wanted he could of just done nothing and have his family support him . He chose to do music but also live in a squat be on the dole, he cared very much about what was going on in Britain at that time whether it be unemployment or what have you. He worked very hard to get somewhere and make money the clash tried to help the world stand up to racism tried to give the kids a voice in that generation . People don't understand because they dont know the facts, have all the respect in the world for Joe and the clash. the only band that matters

Those who criticize Joe about his schooling - his schooling for god's sake!! - are such idiots. Course, if it wasn't that it would be something else. Theorizing, instead of being able to just get into the music.

Joe is down playing public school. Im a bit older than Joe, and I went to private school in the late 60s. Its safe to say the bullying and racism was off the charts, boys who were weak literally were PTSD victims, probably for the rest of their lives. One boy I knew called Simon Liu (Diplomats son from Hong Kong) wouldnt KOWTOW to older boys , he was dragged through a HAHA ditch in gym kit, by a rope , the HAHA was full of broken concrete and stinging nettles. He had a dislocated shoulder , broken leg, broken arm and he nearly died of the stinging nettle poison, he was stung so much. You had to be tough and on your guard at all times.

You might already know but Joe claimed his ' initiation ' at his school was to Get in a bath of used toilet paper or get beaten up . Predictably he chose the beating.

It's sooo weird that Mick Jones produced The Libertines! There albums were amazing, I bet Mick Jones really helped with that. If you are looking for new music influenced by The Clash try searching The Stumble and Shake - Oh my darling, Oh my dear (Earthquake Version) you may be in for a surprise!

There's another Mick jones who's a producer, Mick Jones from Foreigner who's produced some big names, are you sure you're thinking of the right one?

AnIslandsView I guess you would know, you sound like a huge Clash fan. I go on KZbin trips sometimes and I'll find look for documentaries and interviews on my favorite bands and watch as many as I can. That's how I got here. There's a couple of really good ones on The Clash. It's nice to see that they can sit together now and forget the stupid shit that made them split up.There was a lot of anger and animosity involved I didn't think it was possible they'd all talk again. I saw one where Joe Stummer got upset to the point where he looked away with his eyes tearing up because he felt the break up was his fault and he said he should have just let Mick be Mick and not listen to their manager at the time.Hind sight is 20/20. He and Mick played together for the 1st since they split on stage 3 weeks before he passed and they looked happy to be together again so had he lived I think they would have reunited for something,a show or tour, maybe new music. Sadly we'll never know but at least they did get to play together one more time. I'm sure Mick cherishes that moment. You wanna see something funny on The Clash, look up "The Clash The Last Gang In Town 2013,I guarantee you'll get a chuckle.Mick did. Anyway peace out n rock on! BTW I'm a big fan of both Mick Jones's.

There’s just not enough praise for this band. The greatest. It kind of pisses me off that when the band’s name is mentioned the first songs people associate it with is their most banal pop dreck “Rock The Casbah” and “Should I Stay”. I personally think their second LP was as close to a perfect masterpiece as they ever came. I’d say half of the songs on London Calling and everything they recorded before that represents them at their truest before fame and world success played a part in their song writing.

THE CLASH MADE MUSIC, THE PISTOLS MADE HISTORY OUT OF ONE INCREDIBLE UNREPEATABLE RECORD. THAT WAS ALL BECAUSE OF LYDON NO ARGUEMENT. ......BUT JOE STRUMMER WAS AN INCREDIBLE INSPIRATION TO MANY AND IS TO THIS DAY....MAYBE THERE IS A FUTURE. STRUMMER WAS ACUTELY AWARE OF HIS BACKGROUND AND FINANCIAL SUCCESS WHICH IS WHY HE KILLED OFF THE CLASH. LYDON COULD LOOK MORE HONOURABLE.AND COOLER BY ACKNOWLEDGING STRUMMER. AT LEAST STRUMMER DIDN'T PONCE ABOUT LIKE BONO SAYING "INSERT DEAD LEAD SINGER OF CHOICE" WAS THE REASON HE STARTED HIS BAND.
