@@TrueOpinion99 Not a lot of firearms instructors have his level of knowledge gained from both military and civilian. He was a Marine Corps firearms instructor, won both civilian and military marksmanship competitions, and was unfortunate enough to have experienced self defense shootings and the court battles that follow. On top of all his medals and trophies and lifetime experiences, he stood before the camera and said that he is in no way telling the viewer what to do, that what he was sharing was based on his lived experiences, training, and understanding, and he oft repeated that he made no claim to the mind of greatness, which many would disagree. A man with that kind of background and humility is a man that I trust. There was no larping, fluff, or theater with his videos, just straight forward instructions and firearms experiments with a touch of his own dry humor and flare. I get wary of a lot of Gun Tubers who want to hold themselves up as an objective standard for what everyone else ought to be doing. That's also why I like Blue Jean Operator. So, when I say Paul was the Gold Standard, at least for me, I'm just saying this is the kind of instructor I trust. Real world experience with a humble attitude. You can disagree. That's fine. What I hold up as my gold standard, you in no way have to agree with and I respect your opinion.

If you ran around with plate carrier and helmet and what not you are probably more of a "threat" than when you carry normal hunting clothes. (Do you americans have traditional hunting clothes?) The AR15 is so goddamn common in the us that i doubt most people will bat an eye, because thats what 90% of the guns out there will be.

Taking this to its logical conclusion you should throw an LPVO and a 10rd mag in for the first mag. I think the big mag sticking out the bottom and the "evil military laser holographic red dot" set off alarm bells in normies as well. LPVOs can be super capable, but look more like the scope on a hunting rifle. The 10 rd mag can be replaced by a 30rd in a concealed micro chest rig or sling bag.

Disagree. I'm from a European country that has received refugees from all over. Sri Lanka. Balkan. Afghanistan. Iraq. Syria. Somalia. Eritrea. Ukraine.... Not one of them was armed. And I tell you why... even in a SHTF situation there will be armed, organized groups. Were talking company size elements (100 to 250). There will be roadblocks. Checkpoints. Overwatch (snipers). Reinforcements/QRF. You may slip through as a civilian but being overtly armed turns yiu into an instant target and you will be killed sooner or later. 100%. Thinking you'll shoot your way out of anything is delusional. You may keep looters away from your house but that's about the extent of your capability. You and your 5 buddies aren't doing anything significant. Keep in mind... much of the world has been in trouble at one point or another, but never all places at once. Getting out of dodge quick or in fact, before shtf is the most underrated tactic of all.

Yeah, an M-14 variant ticks all the boxes. It's mostly wood, and with a 5 round magazine in it for walking around to most people it looks no different than a "hunting rifle." The platform is cost to feed it. Even rolling my own .308, and not factoring in my time or reloading equipment, with the cost of components, it's still hitting close close to a $1. $9,600ish per year cost of .308 ammo, verses $3,100 for 5.56. ....and yes, $6,500 difference a year is not fun for me, but YMMV.

Nothing about this funiture is especially usefull and you could archieve the same level of "concealment" if you use a brown rattlecan. Also if you really want to make it look more like a hunting gun, you would probably spray paint handguard, lower and stock brown and use a scope as well as a short 3 round magazin that does not stick out. Also using a different non adjustable stock might help more than this little wood decoration that he showed off here. But than again its just an add with maybe 1-2 "valid" points thrown in there.

I agree with Brass Facts- in most scenarios, a CCW or PDW will be ideal for SHTF, at least for low intensity environments; if it isn’t readily apparent that you’re armed, most people won’t pay any attention. Even grandpa’s old deer gun could attract the wrong sort of attention.

Camo wraps actually do a lot better than wood furniture. Camo wraps are usually seen exclusively on hunting rifles and shotguns, so when people see it on your rifle, they’ll assume it’s a hunting weapon.

Maybe 20 years ago this might have been useful. Given there are so many finishes and colors for modern AR furniture, all I see from a distance is an AR patterned rifle regardless of color. It also doesn't help that you're running a 30 round mag. It'd go further to break the traditional outline if it was loaded with a 5 or 10 rounder.

My go-to is very simple now since I don't want to carry a stupid amount of weight. I call it the Ruger Ready Ranger: Ruger AR-556 in 350 legend Ruger RXM Ruger AR-556 upper in 5.56 with an 18" barrel in my pack Both the rifle and spare upper are very minimalistic; flip up metal sights, red dot for the 350 and lpvo for the 5.56. No lights, no gadgets, no foregrips, just stock with a sight and irons. Ruger RXM is also stock except the rear sight having glow yellow dots. I figured to keep it simple so I can scavenge more, carry more food & water, and have less weight to hump around altogether.

If not available, AR10 with a 20 or 30 round mag better than 5.56 against those big animals. If doing the .308/7.62 NATO, I would choose the FAL or PTR91/actual H&K original. My old FAL was fitted with a scope mount and scope that also did not block a clear view on my iron sights for close engagement scenarios. I'm not concerned about anyone deciding to engage because of a 30 rd mag or more. Honestly, I think a bigger mag might make a maroooon think twice as compared to sticking a 5 rd mag on a rifle that is clearly the type capable of taking 20, 30, 42, 60 rd mags or drums. Instead of wood AR furniture, a mix of different colored furniture parts, home made spray painting, camo netting and fabric/clothe will do a lot to disguise what you're carrying. Better to move in small groups, especially multiple teams than let a bozo or few engage for anything. Some low tech comms and predetermined ROE, training, and flexibility to change anything might out maneuver anything but professionals. Let's hope we tend to come together more than crash heads, atleast with other Americans, allies, cultural, religious, similar types and join against our collective enemies and pray they don't blend in.

Most of the guys in my deer hunting group are old traditionalists. They like wood and steel and are apprehensive about ARs as a hunting rifle. I built a 450 bushmaster with Woox furniture and they seem to like it. My father's cousin, who's not familiar with the AR-15 was surprised when I told him what my rifle was. I chose Woox just because I liked how it looked, but I do think that it takes the "scariness" away for those whose only knowledge of the AR are the lies told to them by the news media.

I live in a very anti-gun state with an AW ban, and I have an old Norinco SKS for exactly this reason. It's got a "non-detachable" internal magazine which exempts it from the AW restrictions, and without the bayonet the average person who doesn't know guns can't tell it apart from a bolt-action hunting rifle. In a SHTF scenario, swapping the internal magazine for a detachable one is simple (not that I would know Mr Fed who reads all my posts). It was also dirt cheap and I'm a poor, so there's that.

The list of guns I'd stash in a PVC pipe for SHTF changes all the time (depending on my mood and what I'm thinking lately) would presently include an M&P-15 AR, a Ruger 10/22, a Mosin-Nagant M44, and a Chinese SKS. I figure if I'm going to stash them for an emergency, I want ones that I could bury and forget about, not ones I'd want to take to the range or have available for home protection or whatever.
