From a technical standpoint it's pretty impressive for its time as well. Having prerender backgrounds is neat but having 360 prerendered backgrounds plus live action FMV cutscenes that play in those 360 backgrounds is pretty god damn incredible

Yeah this was a pretty cool game. I still own the computer disc game from child hood which is pretty sweet. I remember playing this in the 2000’s. Just dug into my old computer collection funny thing. You’re not alone on this feeling. It’s good to remember the child hood stuff we used to do. Pretty advanced game for 1996.

What I love about horrorland is how you can interpret it in various ways. I never read the book but I did read the graphic novel and in that it looks and sounds almost like your standard theme park, but its a lot more deadlier and there's creatures that the horrors keep. The episode makes it look like it's run down and abandoned in a forest, only for it to actually be run well by the horrors. The video game by Gusto games makes it look like a huge theme park, possibly as big as Disneyland or Universal due to the various areas which are the Carnival of Screams, Vampire Village, Fever Swamp, Mad labs, and Terror Tombs, but the insane fact is how every area somehow has its own look and atmosphere like Vampire village being nighttime and The carnival of screams being the afternoon, almost like a magic barrier separates each area and gives them their own look and feel. This game gives horrorland that same atmosphere where it looks run down and abandoned but its actually not thats how it naturally looks. This why I love horrorland, you can give it different interpretations as long as it has horrors, possibly deadly rides and games, and the goal of course is bringing scares and terrifying the guests... and also that noone can ever leave horrorland

It's been literal decades since I've read the book but I really don't remember the rides actually being particularly deadly. Customer complaint worthy at best. I do remember that the monsters were ultimately laughably weak. Basically all they needed to do was pinch the monsters and they'd deflate.

Oh man, what a throwback. Would have been 9 when I played this. I just remember not having the greatest patience, so some of the minor puzzles annoyed me and I gave up. I don't think I even got 10% of the way thru tbh, but never really gave it a fair try. What's not shown in this playthrough is those garbage can tunnels with the spider monster that lurks around. I was terrified of that thing. Come to think of it, I never wanted to go down into those tunnels, and I thought that was probably the only way to progress. Might have been the reason I quit.
