What were your expectations for the Red Cross? Did you want them to hand out large sums of money to people right away or have instant permanent housing? Twice we had to evacuate due to forest fires, the Red Cross was the only agency to provide assistance/temporary shelter. Both times they were on scene the day after the fires started. Nobody else helped except a hotel that offered evacuees free hotel rooms that we took advantage of. Over 494 million dollars has been given or pledged to Maui by the federal government and private donations. I saw that tall dry grass several times when I visited Maui and thought maybe the humidity kept it from going up in flames. It looked like a major fire hazard to me coming from California where they fine people for tall dry weeds/grasses on their property. Extra strong dry offshore winds and outdated, fire hazard power lines/poles set the stage for this tragedy. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience with the Red Cross or lost property in the fire. They have helped thousands of people for decades all over the world.

Thank you for showing the outdoor history area at the American Red Cross headquarters. I did not know that area exists. By the way, the National Park Service runs a 2nd Red Cross related historical site in the Washington, D.C. area. They display Clara Barton's former house, in Glen Echo, Maryland.
