John Giles, Republican mayor of Mesa, Arizona, is pledging his support to Kamala Harris. He even spoke at the Democratic convention. Giles joins Hari Sreenivasan to explain why he felt compelled to switch sides. They discuss immigration as a ballot issue this election, and the necessity for Kamala Harris to reset the messaging on this subject.

"There is no reason to feel loyalty to a political party." Most rational declaration out of anyone's mouth in the midst of all this turmoil. Vote with reason, critical thinking and do the research, then vote for the person you have vetted will do the best job, not perfect, but more often than not will do a wonderful job and won't make things worse. I lived in Mesa, AZ 1985 - 2000. It was the best choice in the Phoenix area. They welcomed Native American children from a local reservation into their public schools when Scottsdale would not. They recognized MLK - Civil Rights federal holiday while the rest of the state took years to do so. Even so I was most pleasantly surprised by Mayor John Giles patriotic stand. I sincerely hope he and other Republicans are able to vanquish Trump's stranglehold on the party and revitalize it as a decent loyal conservatives committed to governing and legislating for the good of our country.
