Update 13.01.2021: GoPro Labs experimental firmware now supports HERO7, HERO9 and MAX! that means QR codes can be used to change Protune settings... too bad HERO6 and HERO5 Session are still not supported :(

I would say the QR is good for some situations and a real pain in others. The bottom line is that the Session has lost functionality as labs is not supported. I was planning to use my Session 5 tomorrow, but I know it has Protune settings from the last time I used the camera that aren't appropriate for tomorrow. But now I have no way to change them. This change is absurd.

The weather can change in an instant here in the U.K protune has been an absolute must for me even in the standard session GoPro days! I just bought a second hand session 5 to find I couldn’t access protune wtf haha this lead me here. I can’t believe they’ve removed this feature even from my hero 7, they have taken away any ability the cameras had who wants washed out auto setting footage?? On a quad or not if you want the best footage out the GoPro you need to tweak protune setting for that given day, I have emailed them about this and everyone should also. Thanks for the video 🙌 i will probably download this £10 BLE app as I totally need settings on tap.

GoPro is also killing their sales in to the Cinematography and Film Making market. Everyone needs to go put a 1-star review on the app on the Play store - even Bardwell got the same BS reply on his review there,... and GoPro is trying to fill in the bad reviews with fake 5 star reviews, they're obvious when you spot them, very few words, all praise, surrounded by tons of negative reviews posted in the same hours.

I can confirm ble for gopro app works very well to tune the nakend gopros or session 5. But indeed it's very disapointed of gopro.

Yeah I found this out the hard way at the field with my Hero 7 it doesn’t have a working rear screen the front screen is also damaged, so I can’t use the Mode+Rec button to change it on the front screen and the app doesn’t work as we know, to help even more I’m on iOS. So now I’m stuck on 1/120 ISO 100/100 🤬

it's so crazy GoPro did this. I've wrote a lot of my anger about this but it didn't help anything yet. And the worst thing about it; you can't roll back your iOS app to the previous one. And I don't have any Android hardware to control my (4!) GoPro cam's. And yes, I'm used to change my ProTune settings a lot. I loved it.

The manual specifically states that ProTune is an option. I asked them to bring back the functionality or alternatively send out a Hero 9 as a replacement... not ideal given the weight but I can just remove the Hero9 battery and run it from USB to reduce weight. The session is the camera we love. Why would they remove this functionality. I suggest contacting them and asking for a replacement camera... as they have basically removed the ability to use the cameras functions which are listed in the manual. I can turn on ProTune via some button presses but it is not possible to configure now or even view the ProTune settings.

I uninstalled the recent version (Android) and installed the old 7.3.1 (naked gopro 6 fpv firmware). Via wireless I can connect but the app is not able to connect to the gopro anymore. Do I need establish the display again (this would be a pain in my ass)? I thought that the wireless connection does all the needed things.

you can use the latest firmware for the session, they generally don’t work well with RS GO so it doesn’t matter :) and GoPro removed the features from their mobile app, it’s still possible to change protune settings with different apps or when downgrading the app on Android devices

Why would gopro care if we make naked cams? It actually suits them just fine. Warranty is voided and gopro more likely to die, so you must buy a new one.

Your post made me sick, after realizing to late that my phone had already updated. i was able to get the .apk 7.3.1 and save it to my google drive. i dont have a hero 9 or anything. i do have 3 session 5s that would have become useless, a 3+ black, 4+, 5black, hero 7 black, hero 8 black.

What do you mean? Did you upgraded to the Gopro lab? The protune is removed only from the app. Shouldn't effect the camera software.. Yesterday it was working for me on my Session 5... I just stuck in protune, flat profile. And I use the same camera for flying tandems with passengers.. so now i need to spend hours of working and rendering just to not give flat color videos to my passengers.. So still FCK gopro! :(

Unfortunately they probably have a kill switch in older apps so that they stop working. If you buy any new GoPro cameras that version of the app will also not work with them. The Android eco system is also deprecating a lot off stuff every release so if you buy a new phone that apk version will most likely not work on a newer Android OS version.

@@chrswnd ich hab zu meinem Festnetzinternetvertrag ein Huawei Tablet dazu bekommen, wird einfach via USB-C mit dem FC verbunden und passt. Zum abspielen von Gopro footage ist es nicht geeignet aber für die Einstellungen sollte es auch reichen :)
