There is a fisheye effect, look at the trees on the right. Also there are attachments designed to reverse the extreme wide angle of the lens.

In Hero2 you can choose if to use or not wide angle... And the quality is as good as the other shots it seems to me...

This is a great video demonstrating the limitations of a GoPro. Awful rolling shutter from engine vibrations, audio drop-outs, compression artifacts, and the ever-obnoxious fisheye lens. If you want mediocre results in a small package, this is the camera for you.
