GoPro Hero Official Mic Adapter - Is it REALLY needed?? Does a 3rd party alternative work?

Hi ! Using almost the same configuration (Lark M1 + Media Mod or Hero Mic adapter). An important point is to know that using the Media Mod, the Gopro 9/10/11 etc will keep a lot of heat when recording, and can get blocked (it happened) several times or crashed. So, using the Hero Mic Adapter could be a solution in order to let the Gopro dissipate the heat much more easily. Thanks for the video.

Do either the official or aftermarket 3.5 to USB adapters supply plugin power for attached condenser mics (eg lavelier)?

@@4T-Techactually I’ve got one and experimented now. This is with a Hero 9 black and the official media minor adapter vs a third party. With the official ones you get a menu option to select bias power or not, it’s confusingly labelled. The ‘powered mic’ option means the unit expects a self powered mic, ie the GP doesn’t output any power while the ‘standard mic’ option it does output power to power a condenser mic! With third party adaptors there’s no menu option so presume no power either however they seem to work most of the time, just not reliably

Hi - yes I'm pretty confident that the 3rd part USB to 3.mm adaptor or similar will work with the Action 4, but I don't have this action camera so can't confirm 100%.
