The difference is that Sam Hill would’ve picked up his bike with broken bars. Picked his head up and pedal his ass off and still come in second. Kid was 4 tenths off third. Great rider and great kid. Experience will do him well

If you watch the first part, he starts to brake about 10 seconds later than a normal person would. The speed and confidence is unreal in the line selections. Hate to see it go down like that but man what a run.

That’s exactly where Sam Hill crashed at worlds in 2008 (ish). Super high speed corner, end of race run, dusty dry corner, if you take it inside it’s even sketchier. Not nearly as tech as the rest of the track but I can totally see why it has claimed a number of victims race runs over the years.

He wouldnt clock that time after 80+ riders have been down the track by the time the sharp end of elite had their runs. The track does not improve with more practice and race runs on it, the holes only get only deeper and deeper...

I never understood this point... he was faster before he crashed but maybe that's what made him crash? people always judge from time splits, a crash is a crash, he was riding fast, but couldnt bring it all to the finish line sometimes a safer/smother run is faster than go for it at 120%

FWIW: His time was best at Split 3 by 0.030 second over Williams, but at Split 4 he was down 0.267 second. The wreck was between Split 4 and the finish. No idea if he would have caught Williams if he didn't crash. The final section, from Split 4 to finish line, took most riders about 30 to 35 seconds. Tough to make up 0.267 second in such a short stretch, but if anyone can do it it would be Goldstone.

Maybe these last couple of races will be good prep for his elite career. There are a lot of juniors who have struggled to make the transition to elite initially. Having these crashes now will hopefully teach him and make him mature quickly as a rider. Williams seems to have his stuff sorted these last two races. It's not always the fastest that wins

I know it sucks to crash in a spot so close to the finish in a huge race, but what a way to crash. Low side slide on dirt after some braking into the corner. Best outcome possible really. Too young and too much potential to have a major injury.

The moment when a carbon fiber bars that were designed to last 4 minutes (1 run only, but ftw the ultimate weight winnie), actually last 3 minutes and a half because the shred is on another level lmao. Impossible to snap some freeride-rated 4.5mm thick handlebars that way, but oh well these are much heavier at ~500grams, definitely not for speed competition.
