To bring the gear down, did he use the clutch? Because, in the new S1000 R, it does not need.

when hes going through the quick down shifts in rapid succession, is he clutching in and out for every one or does that bike have some sort of quick shift mechanism? I hear the motor rev more when he down shifts in between so I was curious

It has quick shifter, only time he pulls in clutch is when he stops bike or starts going in first gear.

In most race bikes the gears are 1 up and rest down... This allows the riders to upshift even when banking left more easily.

super late reply. agree with Austin, this is GP shifting pattern. not all riders use them tho, some still use the 1down5up pattern.

can anybody explain to me why you shift a gear up by pushing the gear paddle down and why it isn't like on any other normal bike- to shift up by pushing the gear paddle up? O.o

If I remember correctly it's so that when they're changing up coming out of corners with a high lean angle, they don't need to have their foot under the shifter, which would rob lean angle from them and potentially trap their foot

I know how difficult driving on pace and talking at the same time is. It's difficult... Can't imagine trying the same on my motorcycle. A little tire slip on two wheels at speed is more than a tad butt-clenchingly scary.

For what reason is the shifting motion inverted? Moving up for shifting down?

GP shift, it's more "natural" in racing and prevents mishaps when shifting through the exit of turns(I think?).

Faszinated as mentioned, its easier to shift up in the middle of leaning by pushing your foot down, compared to getting your foot underneath the shifter

Absolutely, It's called GP shifting, and it uses a reverse shifting pattern. The reason for this is ground clearance, when leaned 64 degrees, you can't really put your feet below the shifter to shift up, which is often done halfway through a fast corner or right at corner exit while still leaned.
