The weird thing is that the Hero 7 footgae shows literally no movement from your helmet but the footage in front of you is shaky The max and hero 8 show shaky head footage but otherwise smooth footage in front of you

Great comparison! I was worried about the Max's detail compared to the 8, but this video shows that the Max is clearly capable of producing great looking footage. It's close enough for me and the colors actually seem a little better? Very excited to start experiment with reframing 360 footage.

The Stabilization on the MAX is insane, compared to the HERO8. And even that is insane. I'd love to see some comparisons between the Fusion and the MAX, since the Fusion now gets more affordable.

Yeah I do note that he has stabilization set to low vs Max on the Max, so the 8 may yet have some room for improvement. Still awesome performance from both in this vid.

Great comparison, Abe! Both cameras did really well! Hero8 had better stabilization than I expected, while MAX had better quality than I expected. Both held their own for stabilization and image quality!

4k smorekay. This Max is such a more immersive experience and who needs 4k if you cant even see the amount of trail the max captures. Plus the stabilization is phenomenal and the added 360 is icing on the cake.

I need to see this on a big screen TV, because the differences seem pretty subtle on my laptop (not sure how anyone would spot them on a phone). It's good to know about that non-cropping aspect of the Max even in high stability mode. Did you use the plastic covers on the Max? I'm gonna guess the answer is "no" since they have an impact on image quality, but that was definitely an activity with a high risk of falling.

Thank you for the comparisons! They've conquered stabilization, it looks amazing! Now they need to conquer image quality, I hope Hero 9 has a 1"sensor for better stills and low light shots. That's where GoPro is still lacking.

G3ORGE it’s easy to say just put a 1” sensor in but it’s much more complicated than that from an optics and engineering path. There’s a reason there are no wide angle 1” sensor small cameras, the length of the lens would more than double the depth of the camera, and you wouldn’t be able to have anything in focus under 2 or 3 feet so you’d need variable focus. Hoping to see some advancement in technology but physics is a hard thing to overcome.

so gopro max has hero mode on 1440p 30fps , and gopro hero 9 can shoot it 2,7k 60fps ( with max lens ) in superview , am i correct? so for horizontal leveling in superview go pro 9 has better resolution and 60fps? can you confirm?

Steroid Star because I was comparing the field of view mostly, and you can’t do high with 4:3 aspect ratio unfortunately. I actually might have one test where I did high vs. max hyper but I remember it looking very similar in terms of stabilization.

Can you do a go pro hero max in it's horizontal stabilization on a chin mount? Non vertical so standard orientation. Then compare it to a chest mounted gimble. And for yolo's sake. Chest mounted gimble with hero max with horizontal stabilization

gunfire12321 stabilization is fine. Just not really necessary for me. I use 360 for stuff like follow cam etc. Biking I generally just want to look down the trail. Less post work (none)

Matteo Cervelli Shooting in wide in any of the 4:3 modes in HERO8 is the same wide view as superview, superview simply puts it into a 16:9 frame !

When I use superview mode in my hero 8 I have more side view. In 4:3 I have more visual in height of the frame. Especially in chest mout With superview if you position the GoPro at the right angle the most of action is in the frame. 4:3 allows more adjustment in post. Thanks for your beautiful videos!
