I feel like this is an honest review. I just got into FPV videography, for some of my more exciting material as a videographer and I am enjoying every minute so far. I got the DJI FPV because my thought was that I need something more user-friendly in terms of flying, as I was told by a friend that ACRO flying is extremely difficult. He wasn't wrong, but after a week of carefully trying the DJI out and practicing on Liftoff, I am already flying it in full ACRO, and I got the same feel that you got here: the drone is fine, the fpv aspect is great but the camera footage is a bit disappointing. Your conclusion here feels the truest to me. The DJI/GoPro fanboys say that it's good (but it can't be the same with a relatively big camera on top) and the FPV purists say it is completely stupid. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Since I bought the DJI I will continue to use it, it is a good drone overall with pros and cons, but I think that some day I will put a GoPro on it until I'll get another drone and have fun switching between them. The DJI makes sense once you remeber that the goggles and remote can be used with other drones (with the right modules etc). BTW, I mainly use my Sony A7iii anyway, a bit of GoPro footage when necessary as well as drone footage (mavic).

I've been testing different variations of the DJI FPV and Hero 9 combo. I didn't want to, but the stock camera on the FPV isn't that great. I've been testing different settings on that as well to see what looks the best and so far I found you absolutely have to shoot in D-Cinelike with ND filters. Without those I think the footage looks pretty bad compared to other options. Even with that I still think the GoPro 9 is still better so I'm currently using that. The first mount I tried gave me similar results as you - not as easy to fly. I tried another mount that I found on Amazon and now I can't really notice a difference except less battery time. Maybe it had something to do with the center of gravity being too off on the first mount. I use RSGO, but like a lot of people, I think the footage looks fake if there is too much correction. Small adjustments are fine, but once the zoom effect gets to a certain level, it looks fake. Soooo, now I'm working on different settings to see how to maximize Hypersmooth. Hopefully DJI takes the camera feedback seriously and provides either a software update or an option to use a different camera in the near future. If not, Hero 10 should be out in a few months :)

I bought a hero 9 and the same mount, I am sure the weight sucks and agree that it's underpowered but for flying just doing cinematic straight shots will be well worth it, plus you can use the hero 9 for future FPV builds. The DJI drone camera isn't the same so I will take the sacrifice of more weight for better quality.
@GreyEagle3 Жыл бұрын
Excessive weight reduces the flight performance in almost every respect. For example, the most important performance deficiencies of an overloaded aircraft are: • Higher takeoff speed • Longer takeoff run • Reduced rate and angle of climb • Lower maximum altitude • Shorter range • Reduced cruising speed • Reduced maneuverability • Higher stalling speed • Higher approach and landing speed • Longer landing roll

could you do a similar video but this time with the DJI Action 2?
@arude23972 жыл бұрын
Ok question - you're saying it's bad and so on... BUT - What if: 1. I've never flown a FPV drone before / 2. I actually don't care much about FPV / 3. I do care about not crashing my drone into very first obstacle or so / 4. I DO CARE about image quality. Long story short I need that FPV look to film action sports (basic Mavic 3 image is a bit "static") with decent image quality and without spending hours on building and learning how to fly proper FPV drone. Any better solution than DJI FPV which has obstacle avoidance and "panic button", combined with GoPro 10?
@certifiedaerials2 жыл бұрын
I'm in a similar boat. The ease of use of DJI really makes me more confident when flying. Would love a live stabilized 1080p output from air unit or goggles/remote.
@christopherkessell51963 жыл бұрын
I just don’t understand why these comparisons aren’t done with the GOPRO Hypersmooth which is the only fair comparison. RSGO just doesn’t look realistic whereas Hypersmooth does. And who really wants to have another step to take in your editing flow which can add considerably to the rendering time. Plus it’s another 100 bucks I don’t want to spend!

I’ve heard differently… from your experience, is the setup no good for freestyle? I have just ordered all the parts ready to go 😅
@nelsonwesterhout25883 жыл бұрын
@@GFX_media I keep a regular 5 inch for freestlye fun. The DJI FPV is not a freestyle drone whatsoever. However it all depends on what freestlye means to you. I've seen people post "freestyle" compilations on youtube and its just them coasting low to the ground and maybe passing something in close proximity. To me that is not freestyle. Freestlye is more akin to anything you see on Mr. Steels channel, which can NOT be done with the DJI FPV. If you are a cinematic dude trying to get some beautiful footage, the DJI FPV is amazing. The battery life and peace of mind I have knowing that it will not randomly fall out of the sky is worth every penny. If you want to keep the DJI but you also want to have a quad for freestyle fun I would recommend getting a tinyhawk freestyle kit it wont break the bank like the DJI. Have fun.
@nelsonwesterhout25883 жыл бұрын
@@GFX_media Just looked at the DJI FPV videos you have been posting on your channel. If that's what you think freestyle is then you should be fine doing freestyle with the gopro on top. Also damn ur lucky to live in such a great drone location. Take advantage of that while you can!

@@nelsonwesterhout2588 I know that what I have been posting so far isn’t freestyle, my future content will include freestyle content. Nice video ! As always ;) Have been flying this setup too. My add-on’s: - with hero9 I had issues with gps signal so rth didn’t work always properly. With hero6 no issues at all. Maybe because of the size - pro: for following objects where timing is crucial it’s nice you can hover for some time untill the moment the object is ready to move - pro: more battery life than regular fpv. About 9-10min with gopro on it

Yeah! This is something I can totally agree with! I tried such a mount, and the drone was out of control. I don't understand why someone can't use footage from a dji fpv drone. I watched a video that a guy got from dji goggles. He used video recording and gyroscope data. When I watch video files on the SD card from the drone, there are video files and data in it. Maybe someone who has a real steady go can try. It may be worth overlaying the data from the goggles on the footage from the drone. ✌️
