GoPro: RaceChrono Pro test

Data overlay created in RaceChrono Pro app by linking GoPro video with RaceChrono data.
Alastaro Circuit Finland 19.9.2015 at 14:20. Intermediate group. Not the best of my riding.. Speed increases a little after 7:40 when "passing" the slower rider by going through pit lane. Kawasaki ZX-6R 2013 model.

Exhaust34: I'm new to this and had a basic question regarding setup. If I wanted to get a set up similar to yours are the main components: A GPS tracker (10 Hz min) with blue tooth [say XGPS 160]; an OBD scanner for rpm/throttle etc overlays [say OBDLink MX+]; some track lap time recorder [say Harrys or RaceChrono; a video capture device [say a Go Pro] and a data storage device [say an iphone8]? Anyway to this without having to carrying an iphone in your pocket (I'm a biker)?

I have the hero 9 black. I hear that the GPS on the camera is better than an external gps. Since you already have the GoPro and your phone on the bike then there’s no need for another external gps. You just have to turn the GPS feature on in the camera and have it linked to your phone as well.

Hi, how reliable are the chronos from the GPS compared to the one from the track transponder?... I was seriously considering to buy a GPS receiver at 10hz. Would you suggest it?

Yes, I would suggest Qstarz 818XT, I have had zero issues with it. I have heard that it has eventually broken for some others, but for me it has been working so far. I have no experience of transponders.

Nice! i was checking the video to see the app! Do you think it was worth it? (the pro upgrade on the app). Was it easy to get the data into the gopro video?

+MK 2 What I did is that I purchased and installed RaceChrono Pro to a tablet. While riding I had actually normal RacheChrono with analysis pack on the phone. After riding I copied the data file and video to the tablet and used RacheChrono Pro to make the data overlay video. As far as I remember it was a little hassle because you need to find where RaceChrono Pro video directory is on tablet so that you know where to copy it and RaceChrono Pro finds it so that you can link it with the data. The great thing about Pro is that data overlay shows live lap time difference, so you can actually see in which parts of the track you are gaining/losing time. So I think it's worth it.

Aha i see! I will try the normal to begin with, and if it works i'll happily buy the pro, it seems like a fair price tbh. You just have the phone with gps in you pocket or something right?

+MK 2 Phone is Samsung Galaxy S5, which is in leather suit pocket and is connected to Qstartz GPS receiver that is taped onto bike tail.

did you got it with racechrono pro app? did the video have been managed through racechrono app or via the gopro app?

GoPro video is copied to the phone and RaceChrono app is used to load the video, sync with GPS data, and create new video with data overlay.

do you need to have gps enabled positioning on the gopro? I mean how it shyncronizes the video and the overlay and lap data?

GoPro does not have GPS, it only takes the video. GPS data is from external bluetooth receiver that is paired with the phone that has RaceChrono app doing recording.

Hi friend, I used the racecrono pro with a GoPro 4, I can see the video in the iphone application, showing the speedometer, map and all other information, but when I download the video from racechrono app to the iphone it does not appear the speedometer and map information, just the video. How do I download the video by showing all the information captured by the app as it is appearing in your video? Thank you if you could aider, grateful!

RPB Movies It sounds to me that you did not generate the video with overlay, you just previewed it. I have not used RacChrono with iPhone, and frankly I don't remember now how the process exactly goes even with Android. Search in KZbin for "RaceCrono Pro: Linking video files from external cameras". It's official RaceChrono instruction video. Hope that helps!

Yes, it is very precise

Hey man got a question, all you need for this to work is a camera (gopro) + racechrono + gps receiver right? Do i need to connect the phone with the motorcycle through obd port to read speed?

Not needed, speed comes from GPS
