During qualifying, riders typically run a slow lap, then a burner lap, then a slow lap, then a burner lap, repeat until qualifying is over. It's proper etiquette for riders on their slow lap to stay to the side of the track and out of the fast lines so they don't block riders who are on a burner lap.
