+TopDog69 I agree. It's fins in particular (as was discovered recently by shark experts)explain their mood. Just like when our muscles are tense when we are uncomfortable or angry. Their fins become rigid and point down. Here this shark is at peace with it's environment and everybody with it. This was lovely to watch. :)

You guys have to realize, she knows what she's doing! These people don't just.. Jump in and go oh hey a shark! You can study many different animals in the world and eventually you'll understand their body language and mood. Depending on the situation and the variations, she knew that it was safe for her to do this. However some people are right, you gotta always wonder if this could have turned ugly, but we always are the people that say 'what if' all the time and never actually have the balls to try it out anyway. So props to her, she knew she could have been in danger, but she had a passion no one would ever be able to understand.

This video made me think about Grizzly Man Timothy Treadwell who thought he had a "Special Relationship" with the bears. Well, nobody told the bears and one day when the salmon ran out Timothy and his girlfriend were next on the menu. The park rangers who shot the bear that killed Treadwell said they removed seven bags of human remains from the bear's stomach. Sharks, bears and other WILD animals are unpredictable. They aren't evil when they kill people. They are just doing what comes naturally as their instinct to survive. If you ever forget that you have lost your caution and your common sense and you are in great danger.
@uwotm835
@uwotm835 8 жыл бұрын
Of course, it was a new, strange bear that killed Timothy treadmill; not one of the bears he had lived among for years. Treadwell was under no illusion that bears were dangerous, he just wanted to escape society. To be honest, though, he did have a pretty special relationship with those bears. Don't strip that from him.
@1notgilty
@1notgilty 8 жыл бұрын
+I been blazinggg I certainly regret that Timothy Treadwell was killed by a grizzly bear. Apparently the bear that killed and ate Treadwell and his girlfriend was not one of the bears that were usually around his campsite. Those bears were already in hibernation. However, Treadwell knew that this other bear was there and he made the fatal error of thinking it was still okay to camp there. In my opinion that shows tragically flawed judgment. His girlfriend was reportedly terrified of the bears. Unfortunately she was killed along with her misguided and rather dopey boyfriend. Wild animals are unpredictable at best.

Honestly, this isn't actually as dangerous as you might think. Contrary to common belief, we're not on the great white's menu, nor the tiger's or the bull's. The surfers are the ones at risk because seen from below, they look like animals that sharks do eat. When encountering a shark, being in the water is the safest place to be. And with the rapidly declining number of sharks, there is little competition for food. The oceanic white tip shark is the exception to the rule, as it'll actively hunt humans... But as its name implies, it lives in the open sea.

+poopshootu There's also a shark called "black tip". Then there's the lemon shark which is slightly yellow in colour. There's also the Greenland shark and the spotted red shark. Pretty much every race is covered. And it's called "white tip" because a tip of its dorsal fin is tipped in white.

+Kristian Brandt The white tip is not hunting humans, friend. It's just that they live in the open ocean where there isn't much food or action so they will investigate if there is a lot of electromagnetic activity in the water, such as a plane crash, boat sinking or a lot of splashing and panic.
@kristianbrandt3012
@kristianbrandt3012 8 жыл бұрын
+NaturalBornCamper As most sharks will. The difference is that most sharks will spit us out once they realise we're human, apparantly we're not very tasty, and swim away, whereas the oceanic white tip, as we know so far, can and have eaten us. No it's not actively hunting humans, but it is the one shark I wouldn't want to meet in open water.

I'm a huge shark advocate. And I'm here to tell you sharks are definitely dangerous. No one should try this unless they've made a career out of studying shark behavior and have spent the majority of their lives around sharks like she has. With that said though, it's a proven fact that if you've been swimming in the ocean more than once, even just off of a public beach, chances are you've had a shark eyeball you at one time or another....and it decided to leave you alone for any number of a thousand different reasons. Millions of people every year find themselves in the water in close proximity to a shark (or sharks) without even knowing it and nothing happens to them. If sharks attacked and killed indiscriminately like the media makes you believe, most public beaches would be closed to the public because the shark incidents would be in the millions. Instead there are typically less than 10 incidents in any given year. Shark attacks are EXTREMELY rare.....they're not mindless killing machines like movies and media portray. They're very cautious and calculated hunters, and we are not their prey. But no matter how rare it is, accidents do happen and that is always something to consider.

Dr. David Banner's Worst Day Back during the sailing ship days,sharks circled ships just in case someone falls off. once they learn the taste of human and understand it's easy food, they will adapt to kill humans.
@dr.davidbannersworstday5860

The Saucy Goblin Shark You're right that sharks often circle boats because they're waiting to be fed, but it's not people they're waiting for, it's chum or other forms of bait. They remember that food (actual food) usually accompanies boats. We don't actually taste good to sharks, and in terms of nutrition, there's nothing on us for them to make use of. In comparison to their usual prey, we're all skin and bone, with practically no meat on us and nothing for them to enjoy. If someone dies as a shark attack, it's usually as the result of blood loss from one bite. They're not consumed by the shark. And it's almost always a case of mistaken identity (hence, only one bite).

look it up then, it will say Falling coconuts kill 900 people per year. The number of toaster related deaths in the world in 2004 was 45. Shark attacks fell to a five-year low in 2013 but the number of fatalities rose to 10, up from an average of six deaths in recent years. Drowning and other beach-related fatalities: 1 in 2 million Drowning fatalities: 1 in 3.5 million Shark attacks: 1 in 11.5 million Shark attack fatalities: 0 in 264.1 million The real threat is humans. For every one human killed by a shark, there are approximately 25 million sharks killed by humans. So the real "evil and bloodthirsty" animals are humans.
@chetmanly9496
@chetmanly9496 10 жыл бұрын
Jill Jildo Again, you're so busy pushing your point of view to read what I'm actually saying. I never said they were evil, I even said I don't hate them, although since blood sends them into a frenzy they are by nature bloodthirsty. My point isn't that these predators roam the waters looking for humans to terrorize; my point is consistently getting close to and/or touching a predator is unsafe behavior. That's I I used the shaking the palm tree or fork in a toaster simile. Being AROUND palm trees, toasters or even sharks isn't necessarily crazy, but intentionally putting yourself into dangerous situations around dangerous things is crazy.And as far as the statistics go about toasters and coconuts. If as many people that used a toaster oven went around grabbing the fins of great white sharks don't you think the numbers would be just a tad different? Millions upon millions use toasters and stand underneath palm trees. I am sure millions don't grab predator's appendages. Read my actual point, and then make a coherent, agendaless response. If you can't, believe me you'll get your last word in, because I'll have dismissed you entirely.
@jildo036

Ya I know you didn't say they are evil but you did say "I'm just terrified of anything that can rip me to shreds before I can fight back. You may perceive this as beautiful, but I perceive it as certifiable insanity. I wonder if her family will go on and on about the beauty of the great white that makes a snack out of her. C-R-A-Z-Y." However that is not true a lot of people have a chance to fight back against the bite of a great white. They have a bite force 20 times of a human and 3 times of a lion and sometimes its mistaken identity or curious to see what we are. People are not eaten alive by sharks most people die from blood loss not by being eaten. Great white have to swim all the time and burn a lot of calories in a day so they like more fatty prey like seals and sea lions and don't like the taste of humans. How many people go to the beach every day? Millions of people and thanks to sharks Ampullae of Lorenzini they can sense a AA battery in the city of New York so they know people are swimming and don't attack so not much different from toaster and coconuts then.

Since you decided to make this both a racial and personal attack rather than actually justify your statements, I'll just give you a smile and a pat on the head. Make sure to tighten your helmet when you leave the house.

Love all these shark 'experts' in the comments. She's not the first person to do this, and she definitely wont be the last. They are beautiful graceful fish. The water is crystal clear, she is swimming naturally, and she is swimming in the day when that magnificent fish is clearly not in predator mode. It's a thing of beauty.

As a biologist I would still describe a great white as an ultimate predator. Beautiful non the less. I would rather swim with a greatwhite than approach a grizzly in BC. The possibility of getting eaten is there for both

If he was out there on that boat and someone said "Theres a 15 foot great white circling the boat- he doesn't look too dangerous, so I think I will jump in there and have a swim with him' I guarantee you Steve would be in his swim gear and ready to go overboard as soon as anyone on the boat...
