Oh sorry I fly a laser 230 - 953 lb Empty weight - so it's about 4.17 or so lb per HP - empty. Gross was 1400 I've had it reduced to keep out of high performance catagory in canada - to 1300 - so my wing loading is right on the line at 13.2 lb - per square foot. VNE 220mph. it's propped mostly for the climb and can do 2500verticle from 200mph - 6 g pull up to verticle. not bad. I've done a bunch to it since I've got it. new hooker - new pannel etc...

Kirby is an accomplished World Aerobatic Championship pilot. This precision flying is for the best of the best from around the world and Kirby has done well representing the USA. Low flying and gyroscopic tricks that aren't in the sequence will get you zero points. Knowing your aircraft and physical limits are key to scoring high. One small goof and you're out of the winner' circle. Discipline, practice and physical stamina will get you to the top.

It is, just look closely. Its a Manfrotto 501DV head, on a manfrotto tripod, on top of a ladder with the neck extended. Whats confusing you is the boom mic with windscreen. I shot this along with Zak Shelhamer and Patrick Barrett. No other cameras are ever used on any GoPro shoot. Just the Hero 2. I promise.

Kirby is so good at demonstrating the true joy of doing what you love. He’s flown that thing inverted a couple thousand times but he’s still grinning ear to ear alone in that aircraft at 2:22. He’s got an awesome talent both as a pilot and an inspiration.

Nothing but flat stickies were used on the plane. in the cockpit, we used the seatpost mount. 11 vertical Gs, 220+ mph, no rolling shutter, and we didnt lose any cams over a two day shoot. The stickies worked incredibly well.

AWESOME - was just watching the re run of Abu Daubi - redbull - where you got hammered for dangerous flying etc... was too bad - must of bee hotter then a popcorn fart! some of the plane's did'nt start either - I can now relate with my higher performance aerobatic plane - it's fussy when it's hot - a bitch to start actually. I could only hope to get as good as you some day. do you do dual? I would love to do some with you some day.

As in licensing? If so you have to get your private pilot first. Usually done in a Cessna 172 it only takes 20 flight hours/ about 40 hours classroom, and cost around 8k in total to get. Then you move on and take full acro lessons which range significantly. Thats the civilian route, but many of these guys are ex-military. So they get all their experience from there. Hope that helped.

I said this because every single red bull video is shot with a GoPro, so I thought they should just buy em out and call it the Bull's eye, or at least buy a specific type of custom made GoPro, and call it that. There 100m people in the US and only 260K REAL aviators, you should respect that stat next time u open ur mouth.

Secondly no it is nearly impossible to become a "jet" pilot at the age of 18 If you are talking commercial airliners as the training required to get the license would take at least another two years to complete. Also most legit airlines require pilots to have at least 5,000 hours of flying time, not a small feet when they only got their license roughly 8750 hours ago. So suck it

I'd love to buy one of these GoPro things and attach it to a light aircraft but I've never been quite sure what mount (if any) is suitable. Has a custom mount been developed for this film or is a GoPro accessory available that's strong enough for the job? Thanks

Not really. Short range, minuscule payload (so no guns), low power, low speed. Fighter aircraft like the Spitfire had 2000 hp engines vs this Edge 540's 340 hp and dive and cruise speeds twice as high. An Edge 540 in combat would be like a yappy little dog, agile but harmless.

Does anybody know what sort of mount they use for this? I want to mount a gopro to the wings of my plane but I'm hesitant to use the adhesive mounts for fear of damaging the paintwork, and im skeptical the suction mount will hold well enough

Its true u can be a jet pilot from 18 i know 3 other people who do it. U cant be a fully qualified solo pilot but u do still fly the plane btw its only the americans who do that us brits arent stupid enough to let 17 year olds fly jets

GoPro cameras are a scam. They actually have pretty bad resolution and make bad quality videos. Look closely. Unless the sun is in the perfect direction and you do lots of editing, it is a piece of crap. Is this correct guys?

He's watching the horizon, which is the only true point of reference when you're going 70+ mph and spinning nonstop in an airplane. Makes it easier not to hit the ground.

It is a mixture of light oil and parafin. It is injected directly into the exhaust manifold where the heat of the exhaust gasses make it burn and creates the smoke effect.
