Starting In 1972 thru 1974 I worked as a VW dealership mechanic in Ohio. I was seventeen when I started. In 1973 VW came out with a limited version Baha strut front end suspension bug with Raco racing seats and could turn quicker then you thought about it. Best handling car I ever drove. But man did it need a motor upgrade. What ever you do don't put that engine in a Baha. The competition has feeling to..................

Wonderful work on this beetle! Really enjoy the stock look. As I'm watching the tachometer it looks like you're hitting 9,000 rpm's at times! Am I right and if I am how did you build the motor to do this?!! Love it!

It wasn’t cheap most of these VW speed parts are made in the USA we are the best at souping up VWs . The down side of this after you have spent all that money to make it fast is that it still is an ancient Rattle trap VW 😒
@psavel2744 жыл бұрын
With forged H.D. internals. The right valvetrain- springs, and retainers especially, and you can rev to 9k all day long. I used to build a good amount of vw 16v's- (PL, 9A, and ABF,) and they rev safely to 8,500 rpm+. Nothing really out of the ordinary there at all.
@psavel2744 жыл бұрын
@@oceanhome2023 Proper suspension setup (coilovers, sways, bushings, reinforcements, corner-weighting, etc,) and sticky tires should come before any of the engine work. Any racer who has a clue will tell you to master the car at its limit in stock form, and when you can drive it to its fullest potential- start with suspension, tires, and brakes. Three of some of the most important aspects of racing as far as the car itself goes. You can have all the power in the world, but if you can't control it or stop it, you certainly won't be fast, and you'll probably wreck.

Thing has like ZERO body roll. I'd be interested to see the suspension setup. Guessing proper adjustable coilovers with sways??? Got to be a blast to toss around. Exhaust sounds perfect as well. Nice work.
@synapticburn Жыл бұрын
it's a standard beetle, so it' s a torsion bar front beam with shocks. But you can get adjusters for it and narrow it. Rear has torsion bar as well and you can lower it by turning it a spline or two. But with upgraded shocks, drop spindles in the front, and big front and rear sway bars they handle great, they're very light. I used to autox my 66 and it was very competitive with just good tires and a closer ratio trans
@caveone-365 Жыл бұрын
@@synapticburn Right, I don't know a ton about the air-cooled stuff really, but it's setup really nice from the looks of it for sure! My experience pretty much lies in the watercooled world, with the PL/ 9A 16v, 1.8t's and VR's of all displacements. Chassis wise basically mk1 through mk5, Rocco's, Raddo's, B3/ B4 Passats, etc. I have built and owned some nice mk2's especially over the years before I got bitten by the Bimmer bug and started building/ track prepping the E30/ E36/ E46 chassis cars. I owned around 8 Bavarian Meat Wagons LOL and I'd have to say my favorite daily was my E34 540/6 m sports. I had two of them and they were such comfortable yet capable cars. Especially with decent suspension, rubber, and the regular mods...

It's a fab looking bit of machinery (even to a non Beetle lover)...... let down by the blatant speeding up of the video footage. One can logically assume that the audio is equally sped up, thus giving the engine sound and perceived performance an equally misrepresented dynamic. If you're gonna fake a video, then up your fucking game and stop insulting people who know better.
