Lightfoot knew how to write a song that could rip your heart out, but make you want to hear it again.

Gordon Lightfoot was a true gift to music ,heart and soul. To everyone who reads this, take a most wonderful journey through his music. Every song Gordon Lightfoot wrote is a jewel. Plus, that's his band on all his recordings. I was so fortunate to see him in concert many times. He will live on forever in his words and music.

Great song! I was so sad to hear of Gordon Lightfoot's passing away recently. Loved his music. One of the best songwriters & storytellers. He was a Canadian legend. My husband & I saw him in concert once. Some of his hits were "Sundown", "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "Carefree Highway", "Rainy Day People", "Cotton Jenny", "Black Day In July", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" etc.

Well done, you listed so many of his songs. I saw him once in Lake Tahoe. Guy was one of the best. I was saddened by his passing also, that golden voice silenced. Man does he leave a library of music to remember him by.

Jimmy Buffett is quoted as saying that Gordon Lightfoot was the songwriter who he most wanted to be like.

Gordon Lightfoot is one of folk's best singer / story-teller / songwriters. The song "If You Could Read My Mind" is about the breakdown of his first marriage. It focused on the emotional distance and disconnection he felt from his then-wife, Brita Ingegerd Olaisson.

This song is pure genius. Lightfoot knew how to write songs that equated some of the best poetry in human history.

the guitar all by itself makes me feel like I am in a car in with the rain pouring down (those high notes descending) when I was soaked and feeling blue due to unrequited love. His lyrics and voice tell the same story

Gordon was the man I first listened to him on radio in the early 70’s I’m 70 now and this song rips my heart out masterfully done and some of the best music ever and he never needed an introduction because you knew who it was instantly by his voice.

My Empress, you look absolutely radiant. Gordon wrote this song about his divorce. He never saw it coming. He didn't know why his wife fell out of love with him. No matter how he tried he just couldn't get her to love him like she used to. One of the most perfectly crafted songs ever. Beautiful reaction pretty lady, RNB

Nice reaction, glad to hear songs that are a bit more sophisticated and real. Break ups aren't always about being angry or hurt, but losing trust or respect for someone.

When he wrote the song, he was going through a really messy divorce, and he paid at the time the largest divorce settlement in Canadian history,

One of the greatest storytellers in the history of modern music, Gordon Lightfoot. However, there's two great breakup songs that I can think of from two different genres and generations. 1970s Sanford-Townsend Band: Smoke From A Distant Fire 🔥 (From an angry young man's point of view) 2020s BAND-MAID: Hate? (From a modern Japanese ladies' point of view) You won't be disappointed in either one. 😂🎉❤

Gordon had problems with his women. His pain was a great part of his music. "Sundown" was a great example.
