Can’t wrap my head around why Gordon’s version is buried deep in scroll on the tube, No disrespect to the other artists, but the studio version of this by Gordon is absolutely beautiful, Very special

The strength of a song is in how many people can make it their own. This is a wonderful cover by the fabulous Gordon Lightfoot.

Thank you Mr. Kristofferson and Mr. Foster for authoring one of the lyrically very best songs ever written. When Gordon Lightfoot, Roger Miller and Janis Joplin cover your work, you did something special.

He sings this touching song in such a relaxed and effortless manner. Gordon absolutely owns it! The best ‘male’ version I’ve heard.

Gordon met Kris in Nashville shortly after Kris had written “Me and Bobby McGee”; he recorded a cover version before Janice did. I had never heard it, Janice Joplin’s version was the first (and only) one I knew for years

But unfortunately, before Gordon Lightfoot could record it, it was Roger Miller who did it first

This has got to be the best ever song that really makes you feel the sadness and loss and regret of a lost love, and let's face it we've all been there. Gordon's version has all the feeling to make you really feel those emotions and make you wonder what might have been if you hadn't been so stupid all those years ago.

The origins of the song are actually quite different. Kris Kristofferson wanted to get into writing music, Late producer Fred Foster's friend, songwriter Boudleaux Bryant, kept teasing him that he only visited Bryant's offices to see his secretary, Barbara "Bobby" McKee, Inspired by the wisecrack, Foster approached Kristofferson, then a young songwriter on his roster. Foster pitched the idea for a song he titled "Me and Bobby McKee" - with the twist in the hook, of course, being that the "Bobby" in question was female, he later told him. Kristofferson misheard the name and thought it was McGee

In his total career in writing and singing great songs Gordon Lightfoot never used anything other than the fourth and fifth fret on his guitar. Watch any of his videos and you'll see. It was how he taught himself to play the guitar and those two cords had all the notes he needed. Amazing

This was the best cover of the country classic--even better than KK's and the hundreds of others who have recorded it.

For my taste, you can't beat Janis.... But this comes a close 2nd !!! I know KK wrote it, but I don't like his version. In my mind the bluesy feel suits the song better
