It's 3:30 AM and I can't sleep, so I'm. In my big old recliner I got from my dad with a roaring fire in the stove listen to these jems and reflecting on our just ended deer season after having venison tacos for dinner. The stories remind me of 30 years of deer & elk hunting with my dad and the new adventures I am having with my new hunting partner & son who shot another deer with grandpa's gun in December. .Life is truly good. Thank you so much for posting these wonderful stories

I still have all three books of these stories and the cassetes of these same readings. I used Mr. McQuarrie's stories both written and narrated to escape the stresses of life down through the years starting in my 20's and still in my late 60's. Unfortunately these days are long gone but not forgotten. The only other outdoor writer than compares to him is Corey Ford. I'm glad someone posted these readings, thank you Mr. Boerenerf!

I own the book. I've had it since 1967. It's so beautifully written I don't have to read it more than once because I remember almost every word in it. But the writing is so good I decided to listen to the audiobook. It's pretty darned good this way, too. This book takes me back to the woods like no other. Everyone who loves the wilderness, who loves hunting deer, or waterfowl, or who loves fishing of any kind, should own this book, even if it is posted on KZbin. It reads a little better than it listens because you sink into it. It should only be read after dark. There should be cool wind blowing leaves along the ground like insects fleeing the winter. If ytou have a fireplace, so much the better. If not, find a screensaver that has sight and sound of a burning log. Then read, and go back in time where the Old Duck Hunters still walk the wilderness trails, and fish the raging rivers of the wild.

I believe I have at least 5 of his compilations including the Trilogy. No finer fireside writer ever lived. I have been reading and rereading his ''drivel'' for almost 40 years and love them as much these days as I did when my hair was another color and there was no Thinsulate nor Gore-Tex.

Regardless of a person's age, station in life, or the time of year these stories bring back memories of Days gone by. Thank you for sharing. Though I own these books, there is something about hearing them aloud which makes them come to life even more.

Yeah I’m 23 and have listened to these multiple times. The north woods of Wisconsin are one of the few places in the country where not much is know especially about the outdoor lifestyle, other than to locals. Seeing the differences in the woods today compared to these older times is quite interesting. He talks heavily about shooting blue bills in Douglas county and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a blue bill up there.

You will get bluebills on the Wisconsin side of the St. Louis river sometimes Bluebills are few and far between in Minnesota and Wisconsin Michigan
