A lot of Julia's lines go over people's heads because she uses cooking terms. For example, her first DeMarco about a "poor abused youth/huge douche" was actually started a line earlier: "Here's a nice amuse-bouche" is calling him an amuse-bouche, which is a dish that is easy to prepare and looks great but is completely lacking in nutrition. She called him basic and a "all flash, no substance" in her line, followed by giving a recipe for him

It's also a double entendre in that it's a sideways swipe at Ramsay for his profanity laced tirades, there are a lot of those sideways swipes from Julia, whereas Ramsay's are more direct. I do really like the subtle jabs though, even if Scru didn't seem to mention any of them.
@300IQPrower3 жыл бұрын
My favorite detail of this fight is that Ramsey is known for his foul mouth and temper, so Julia Child mainly makes personal attacks against him with jabs at vulgarity and using her cheery persona to make it seem that much harsher. Julia Child however in more recent years has been criticized for seriously unhealthy cooking practices and having brushed off criticisms of such as “food fear hysteria” so Gordon’s attacks are primarily directed at her cooking itself and physical appearance. Basically Julia goes for *Personality* part of TV Cooking Personality, Ransey treats it less like a rap battle more like a cook off by comparing the type of things they make.

"I keep my ovens preheated and my pilots green lit" A pretty clever word play. Pilots green lit is firstly reference to how many tv show pilot episodes have gotten the green light meaning getting approval to become a full show. And traditional gas stoves have things called pilots that need to be lit to get the stove going. It could also be interpreted as using the modern slang for lit.

The fat jokes was more than just calling her fat. Julia Child was known to show recipes with a lot of fat in them. Particularly butter and red meat. It's kind of an unbalanced battle because more is known about Gordon's personality due to him being a modern celebrity. Julia Child was more known back in the mid to late 90s so one would have to do much more thorough research to find anything negative about her, even then it'd be tough.

Happy 2021. I have to give this one to Julia for her pulling off my favorire posture for this kinda thing, bemused condescension, especially the start and close of her first verse. Moreover, she repeated comes off as trying to educate him. To me, that puts her in a position of power and makes his appearance-based jabs come off as kid stuff. Plus she's got that shark repellent line. She invented shark repellent for OSS (before it was renamed the CIA) to keep sharks from getting in the way of the USA blowing up nazi subs.

@matthewbibby89213 жыл бұрын
I've actually gotta disagree with your outcome, because while some of Gordon's quips can be interperated as fat jokes, they're also jabs directly at her cooking habits and what she actually made, (overuse of butter/ lard) calling her a glorified translator, mocking specific recipes, and calling her outdated, all while boasting his success as a chef and on TV, while she mostly just went after his TV personality. (but hit hard when she did) But honestly, after listening to this again and again, the more I listen to it, the better Gordon's second verse gets. It's possibly one of my favorite in ERB, period, so even though it's definately a very even match up, imo Gordon takes it.

Gordon attacked with violence and anger, throwing firebombs of hate and pure disrespect. Julia countered by beating him with positivity. And launching sneak attacks at the scared little boy inside.

Happy 2021 Scru, im glad you did this one, it was great. But I really appreciated your comment at the end that just because its 2021 now, nothing is gonna change unless we make it change. True, man

This battle does take a bit to get going. The first round is very much them feeling each other out, so to speak, like cautious boxers in early rounds, but then they really get into it. And Julia's line, "makes you the pissiest bitch in the kitchen" is, to me, the best line in the battle, not just because what she says, but the delivery of it is top notch, as well.

Happy 2021 Scru! Interesting note about that "eat a dick" line: I've heard it said that it's a reference to "spotted dick", a British dish that is considered fairly easy and cheap to make, so not only does it mean the obvious, but it's also kind of an insult to him as a chef, telling him he should stick to basic dishes.

Never knew that line was that deep, ERB still be surprising me after years 🔥🔥
