Thanks for posting this. I went to Rock Creek Cemetery today (4/2/16) to look up Vidal's grave. His partner, Howard Auster, pre-deceased him so the large double grave granite slab was already installed with both names engraved, and was surprised to see that although he died in 2012, Vidals date of death has not yet been added to the tombstone! That's four years later. Was he so disliked by the family that they just didn't bother?

Gore lived in the Hudson River Valley in a msnion and so did I. As a matter of fact, I once saw him at the White Plains coach station waiting for someone. So Gore and I have something in common too....and I am not a southerner.

Absolutely...the revisionist attempts to re-write history are absurd because if you weren`t there you simply don`t understand what it was like.

The only pity is that the film didn't show Vidal back at Edgewater

Sandra, according to Gore - in one interview I saw, at least - he and Joanne sort of set up house and plotted a seduction or, perhaps, an enticement of Paul. Ordinarily Hollywood tittle-tattle doesn't appeal to me, but when it's done in fun, and the subjects are as fascinating as these, I'm all in.

He was one courageous man. Being as open about his homosexuality like that in the 1940s, especially being from such a family that was concerned with appearances. He was also very intelligent and articulate and unlike most people born into wealthy and privileged backgrounds, he was compassionate. He cared about the poor, he was anti-racism, anti-sexism/misogyny, anti-xenophobia, and he was genuinely so, not because it was "trendy". He didn't care about what other people thought about him and he really could think for himself and think outside the box, unlike most people who are called "intellectual". What a truly amazing human being.
