Hailing from Lucknow, Sunita Jhingran was initiated into music at an early age by Ustad Afzal Husain Nagina, Pandit Hari Shankar Mishra, Pandit Siyaram Tiwari of Patna, Pandit Dayaram Mishra, Pandit Badri Prasad Shinglu, Ustad Bashir Khan and later by Ustad Nasir Ahmed of Delhi Gharana.
Born in 1952 to the Brahmin couple of Pandit Motilal Vaidya & Smt. Shakauntala Devi , Sunita Jhingran is the direct descendent of Swami Hari Das, the guru of Tansen. Her repertoire of Vocal Music includes Shuddh Shastriya Sangeet i.e. Classical, Semi Classical i.e. Thumri & Dadra, Ghazal & Sufiyana Kalaam. She effortlessly weaves extremely complex patterns of khayal, dadra, thumri and ghazal; her tans are based on the famous Merukhand tradition, unfolding the raga's multiple moods.
Embodying the spirit of Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb of Awadh, Sunita Jhingran is the first Hindu lady to recite the Nauha, Mersia, and Salaam in her cassette "YAAD E HUSSAIN". The cassette has been acclaimed worldwide, especially in Pakistan, Iran & Gulf Countries.
ACHIEVEMENTS-
• Honored with "Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy Award" for Thumri, Dadra & Ghazal by Governor of U.P (Shri Vishnu Kant Shastri Ji).
• Award winner of "Swar Mani" by film music director Jaidev Ji (Sur Singar Sansad, Mumbai).
• Awarded by Urdu Academy, Allahabad. (Shri Murli Manohar Joshi Ji, Fmr. HRD Minister honored her during the seminar on Firaq Gorahpuri sahab).
• Performed in " Jhansi" , " Taj " , "Bareilly" , " Brij" , " Lucknow" , " Ayodhya" , " Mirzapur" , " Haridwar" Mahotsav including other music festivals.

• Iran Government has made documentary on the life and achievements of Sunita Jhingran and also recorded the various Nauhe (Muslim devotional poetry expressing sorrow for the martyrdom of the Holy Imams A.S. & the Shaheed-e- Karbala A.S.). She always recites the Nauha, Marsia and Salaam in the various Imambaras ( Imambara Gufraanmaab, Imambara Nazim Sahab, Imambara Sibtainabad, Imambara Malikajahan, Kala Imambara, Imambara Bilgram, Hardoi, Imambara in Kaccha Haata, Imambara Shahnajaf) in Lucknow.
• Honored along with Shia leader Maulana Kalbe Sadiq Sahab for promoting Hindu Muslim unity in Lucknow.
• Awarded Saraswati Samman by the Saraswat Sabha, Lucknow.
• Honored by the Director, I.C.C.R (Indian Council of Cultural Relations) in New Delhi during Thumri, Dadra Mahotsav for musical accomplishments.
• Award conferred upon Sunita Jhingran by legendary music director Khayyam Sahab.
• Honored in the "Taj Mahotsav", Agra
• Awarded by Doordarshan Lucknow.
• Honored by Aakaashvani, Lucknow during its sangeet sammelan.
