That's probably a good thing. Older gorillas are prone to heart disease so they've likely adjusted her diet to keep her healthier. But she loves her food so maybe isn't too happy about it; nobody likes being on a diet. She was fed a lot of fruit when she was younger (before zoos understood more about their dietary needs) so developed a sweet tooth and also a tendency to overeat, but too much fruit isn't good for gorillas, or for their teeth. It also increases the risk of obesity or diabetes. Their natural diet in Africa doesn't contain much fruit so their bodies can't break down the sugar well.

He's already done it a few times, but learned his lesson. The zoo has given Gentaro a "time-out" enclosure where he can spend time by himself if he's really driving Momotaro crazy. It's not likely his dad will ever seriously hurt him, but still, a silverback can do a lot of damage, even without fully intending to. At 12 he's really at an age where he should leave his family and join a bachelor group, but unfortunately there aren't any in Japan, or any zoo with the space to set him up with a mate to start a new troop, and for some reason Japan doesn't export any of their gorillas. So he'll have to stay in Kyoto for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately gentaro isn't ready for a female, he is not mature enough. He needs to be separated from the family and have time to himself to mature. I don't think he would do good in a bachelor group either. They should have just made him his own enclosure, even if it was small and only temporary. Them leaving him in the group is just ridiculous.

I remember the trainer of the famous “talking gorilla” Koko, writing that Koko outweighed her at 120 pounds, by the time she was 7 years old, which is not yet adulthood for a female gorilla. And she had to stop playing with Koko in the same way, because the gorilla was so much stronger and could easily hurt her even without meaning to.

Theres nothing for her to do at this zoo which is pretty small other than eat and sleep. Theres no lake for her to bathe in. No real trees or grass, its a glorified prison so i dont think she is a very happy girl.

It makes me think that they arent throwing it bc they think the other gorilla would be grossed out like humans would, i think its literally just something to throw to them. Theres not a lot of different stuff for them to throw in captivity. Theres no small stones that ive seen.
