I saw her keep looking away when she was eating the first one. She was looking to see if her other half-Momo was coming. She ate so fast. At least she got to eat all that fruit and Kintaro (little cutie pie) couldn't even get a piece without her taking it. I love her. I am glad he got some fruit later from the zookeepers. They need a lot for more fruit (not that much) but daily-at least for their health. I mean how boring is eating grass all your life...lol

What did they think would happen? No way is big momma 10 times or more bigger than baby that she would congratulate her baby on his birthday and give him goodies? These people are ignorant and don't know the backstory of Kintaro , who was literally starving to death because her breast milk production was not enough. This happened to Gentaro first, he was starving to death and since Gentaro was so weak he couldn't hold on to Genki any more and she left him on the ground to forage for food. That's when the keepers took action and removed Gent. With Kintaro, Genki wouldnt put him down. The zoopkeepers stepped in and bottle fed Kintaro my having to hand feed Genki fruits while the other zookeeper bottle fed Kintaro...that was the only way for the keepers to get close to Kin. If the zoopkeepers had never stepped in for Gentaro and Kintaro they would've starved to death.

I saw a video at another zoo where they had a huge board up for the 1st birthday. It was surrounded in heads of lettuces, all color peppers. The silverback got there first. Not much left. However, the keepers were on the roof throwing tons of peppers down. Everyone got plenty. Someone said why not separate the silverback from the rest for awhile. They said you never do that. Guess Kyoto Zoo never heard of that or anything else for that matter.
