I don't like people making all these jokes about the deep stuff at the end. Murdoc may be a drunk abusive prick but he's definitely not an idiot, they wrote this album with a purpose and he was explaining it. And his comment about then not being any less real just because they were thought up really sticks with me aswell. Like these guys are really if you think about it, they have real personalities and a story behind each of them, just because they can't be touched and they aren't physically in our world, I really think Jamie and Damon managed to make real people with just music art and writing. It's astonishing to me.
@evanscott1468 жыл бұрын
Holy moly. You're right! What dictates the legitimacy of a person? I guess the best answer is that people do. And if people dictate the legitimacy, then they can dictate whether or not a person must have flesh and blood of their own or simply be someone else's idea of a person. If an imaginary friend is perceived in a constant way among a group of people, then that 'imaginary friend' might no longer be imaginary! Wow, that's an exciting concept. Thanks Lizzy!
@mc.gemstone7 жыл бұрын
Exactly! There personality are so well done and real that's why a lot of people have a emotional grip onto them (like myself) and just in some ways relatable, funny thing is there more real then most celebrities out there.

2D has depression, potential Stockholm Syndrome and an addiction to painkillers. He also gets constantly and relentlessly abused by Murdoc physically, verbally and psychologically. He's also a cartoon character. So,, I don't really know what my point is here but, yeah
@lenoraramirez-wildman32103 жыл бұрын
But sadly it is a very real situation. The character may not be real but these things are happening in real life (obviously not with a band)....on the other hand, people say 2D deserves it because he is provoking Murdoc. I didn't understand how that can equal what Murdoc has done to him lol
@thatonesomali32173 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is, the Stockholm syndrome part isn’t potential, it’s present. It’s disheartening really, but time and time again, he idolizes Murdoc to a subconscious level. I.e Murdoc’s arrest and how 2D is handling it now.

5:41 Plastic Beach, this place I'm on. I think there's something very odd handing here. You see, I just noticed, and it's easy enough to point out, that since the beginning of time, each leap of evolution and innovation has taken a shorter and shorter amount of time. The universe was created 14 billion years ago. Earth, 4 and a half billion years. Man arrived in its earliest state about 4.5 million years ago. And then we evolved into this state, homo sapiens, around 200 thousand years ago. The earliest cities appeared about 6 to 7 thousand years ago over in Mesopotamia. And then we've been at war ever since really. Right up to the last hundred years and then we really kicked off. Populations on the planet have gone from 1 billion to 7 billion in the last hundred years. And every single piece of digital information and technology has exploded in this last century. We're crammed pact and it's getting more and more escalating. The overload. Humanity is now squeezed into this tiny plastic bubble. Everything getting faster and faster whirling towards an inevitable conclusion. A single point on the horizon or in the middle of the ocean, say. The entire time and history and evolution is hurtling towards a single point. Point Nemo. Plastic beach. That's what plastic beach is, I reckon. The end of days. The point of no return. It's right here. It's right now. It's upon us. The future has finally come on. Today. Does that make sense, yeah? Great. Right! I'm off for a tinkle! Great talking to you! Come on, 2D.

I mean it could be, but I see it more of a song 2D wrote while trapped on plastic beach. It's about how Murdoc trying to trap him isn't going to really help. "Where you can get what you want, but you can't get me". Than and i have a theory that he was on withdrawal from his pain meds, and probably hallucinating. so there's something that comforts him like his missing medicine.

Same here, melancholy hill is like a place to go when your sad, a place that's a break from the regular dark road of life and even though it's not what we want from life, it's kind of like a medicine when we're there. It's the best we can get and it cares about us. In this plastic world and all of the fake shit that's thrown at us during life melancholy hill is a real place, and it's not painted pink and shiny, it's real and it's where the people who really care are, dead or alive. They make you feel like you can break through from the plastic fake life and keep walking down that dark road of life knowing you can always take a break there if need be.

I really admire the work the voice actors have put into this. You can tell by the way they can rattle off so much information how clearly they are heavily involved in the band. It's stuff like this that people forget about, but really sells the idea that they're real people. I re-found this after a course on character writing. Maybe that's why I'm so impressed.

I love how much these interviews add onto the characters. When you simply watch the videos, you see mere silhouettes of who they are, the shadows, so to speak, that they cast. Behind each cartoony, gimmicky, flamboyant doodle stands four interesting and dynamic _people._ They've got history and personality and fundamentally human flaws, as well as strong introspective convictions and philosophies that underscore every album they make. Damon and Jamie, as Murdoc so rightfully said, have breathed such _life_ into these characters that they have become very real and virtually inseparable from the music itself, as vital to its comprehension and depth as every note Damon plays or sings. They're satire and humour, intelligence and wit, hope and nihilism and everything in-between. They are the ultimate commentary on the human condition and I'm so glad to have met them.

Murdoc's onto something with that whole end of the world bit... The snowball can only roll for so long before it hits the bottom of the pit, but there's only One who can save us from that inevitable mad spiral of entropy. He's been there all along, knocking at the door saying "wake up and listen, I'm calling, answer me". You see it's only THAT love that can save us... We alone will amount to the dust from whence we came, but the hand that knocks, the hand of creation, the one that bled for us, it's there to pull us out of the abyss as long as we reach for it. So don't be blind to the situation. Salvation doesn't come from mankind, rather we come from the Savior. "So turn yourself around, don't burn yourself, turn yourself. Turn yourself around to the Son."

Ela K Exactly, thanks to Murdoc, 2D is slowly getting smarter, 2D has respect for Murdoc, even though he fears him. 2D highly admires Murdoc, and they have a love/hate relationship. You can see in some music videos and in other inrerviews, while they do fight a lot, 2D is always by Murdoc's side in a way. I studied human psychology for some years, trust me, I have witnessed this kind of cases before, while 2 people hate eachoter they still cant live without them.
@elak134310 жыл бұрын
SirXope 2D is not getting smarter from being with murdoc, hun. unless you didn't pay attention to the entirety of the plastic beach album, it's quite obvious. 2D, during the 5th pirate radio, goes on to talk more clearly and to express himself better, but is very quickly cut off by murdoc every time he tries to do so. murdoc doesn't want him to think like that and throws down his ideas when he tries. murdoc is holding back who he is, if he wasn't then murdoc would have let 2D express himself and say what was on his mind and wouldn't have talked shit about him. i do think that 2D has an unneeded respect for murdoc though. i also do believe, especially in the plastic beach album and do ya thing, that 2d is trying to escape from murdoc in some way. like, he is respecting him less and fearing him more. the first two phases, 2d obviously doesn't fear murdoc much, laughs with him even. he can walk by murdoc with confidence, not being scared of being hit, and was obviously more open. don't you see how reclusive and scared he was in do ya thing? and how sad and scared he was in plastic beach? he was NEVER like that before, honey.

Word of God says Gorillaz was mostly composed by Russel, Demon Days by Noodle, Plastic Beach by Murdoc and The Fall, of course, by 2D while on tour.
@EpicMickey7777 жыл бұрын
True. But Noodle wrote most of the songs in Demon Days, which Murdoc tried taking credit from her.
@WithADashOfPazazz6 жыл бұрын
Well 'The Fall' and 'The Now Now' are 2D's, their debut is Russel's, 'Demon Days' is Noodle's and 'Plastic Beach' was Murdoc's and I guess 'Humanz' was everyones.

Honestly... I have all 3 of these interview segments in my music playlist just because of how surprisingly *soothing* Murdoc's voice really is. Sometimes I just listen to these in the background to calm myself down and maybe even do a bit of analytical thinking... Even the quiet, beach ambience is a really nice touch. I could really fall asleep to this...

Wait a sec. If what Murdoc said is true, then tomorrow has finally come today. Congratulations, 2D.

I applauded Murdoc for his damn speech at the end, even though he’s a fictional character and this is a video made 9 years ago. Like, he might be an abusive satanist pickle that likes za baff, but he’s also deep and that’s a great part of his character. 👌

They all have their moments when their lovable or hilarious, even dark humor kind of times. But something that really makes them all seem so relateable and even idolized is the fact that at times you can really see how far into things that they are, especially the meanings to each and every song they make. It's astonishing, really, how they made them as a whole. Even 2D has a certain has that bit to him... But he's still friggen adorable...

I only really joined a band to make music and now I'm being held captive by a bastard bass player in an underwater submarine being attacked by sodding pirates who are trying to take over this rotten piece of broken plastic in the ocean that Gorillaz call home. All this just to make a video, it's making me want to die!
