I think SL's often underestimate the positive reinforcement aspect of leadership. That doesn't mean coddling or over-praising your guys, but when your LAT takes out enemy armor they stumbled on without direction from you, cheer them on. When a 3-man fire team finds the enemy radio and digs it down, tell them they're the best. Celebrate their successes and encourage them if they stumble. I've had so many people tell me, after losing a game by 150 tickets that it was the most fun they've had, and ask if they can be on my squad next round. It really makes a difference.

Solid info. Ive been involuntarily voted as squad leader...its difficult but letting guys know your inexperienced and asking for help and advice is priceless...The guys that speak up and want to help, teach and give their knowledge Ive even asked them if they would want to be leaders of the fireteam, often those guys are the best for choosing to be fireteam leaders as their knowledge and experience is put to better use because they can mark info on the map and have more tools available in their toolbox that supports their game knowledge and understanding...and delegation of authority helps create a stronger team cohesion...giving acknowledgment to peoples competence is valuable and invaluable. Asking each fireteam leader for status updates of what they see and whats going on is important. You learn what they see that you cannot...and allows you to better assess and take care of them. If theyre taking heavy resistance you can order them to fall back to rally and regroup...or order them not to push and delay the enemy as you inform command of the support you need for your men to be effective.

You should really encourage everybody to be aware of their squad number rather than promoting the use of names in command chat and thus making it more obscure. The same really goes for squad comms. As often as possible, commands should be directed to alpha, bravo or charlie. This is especially true in a context of an online game, where user names can be anything (name of a cap, vehicle type, "low_ammo_1995", "INeed4Medic454P").
@Gorlami144 жыл бұрын
That's a really fair point and I honestly use numbers more than names most days, but the problem sometimes lies in the chaos of comms where new SLs don't check their squad number at the start of games or they forget it and won't recognize other SLs are trying to reach them until their name is said. I wish more SLs would use direct comms since most instances of people being unaware that they are being hailed could be alleviated by talking to them directly. Thank you for the comment!
@IsawU4 жыл бұрын
@@Gorlami14 Yes, I know you mean well. I was kind of imagining a perfect world in which everybody has seen the guide - then it would be better if you encouraged squad number awareness. But since most of the people will never see a squad leading guide, then informing viewers that squad numbers don't always work is a way to go. Thanks for the video, the more the SLing videos, the better the SLs. At least that's my theory.

amazing video man. I've done it once, so far in a very long game that we ended up losing. I wasn't complete trash, but man it really is A LOT to deal with. You really feel that sinking sense of shame when your orders lead to a wipe, and that sense of pride when everything works out and nobody dies, even if the success was just that everyone somewhat properly cleared the empty compound or crossed the street intelligently lol.
@Gorlami143 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah the biggest thing to overcome with the SL role is all the pressure put on you and the stress from everything going on, or at least it was for me.
@danielrobertson21543 жыл бұрын
@@Gorlami14 yeah pressure is definitely the major role player. I used to play pubg a lot, so i'm used to the realistic ranged gunfights and the sounds to look out for, great with trajectory and distance estimation, and yet most of that fell apart when i was leading that full squad. It's just so much (mostly self created) pressure to lead this, as you put it, group of complete strangers, into a battle, however fake it may be, it still represents at some level, your ability to do such a thing in real life, and i think a lot of the pressure comes from the idea that we don't WANT to be bad leaders of men, whether simulated or real!

As a new player I have two tips that would be very good for noobs AND could help non noobs alike. Be smart and clear when moving because so many times I have a postion and as a new player i take calm time to look at map for learning distance while looking around for movment and all of a sudden everyone is 200M away. Or there is action and SL say move when you can to mark and you and your FT are now 500m behind(if your lucky enough that there was a clear order) on top of that Im trying to learn to be a medic and gets in situations where I just cant stand up and run and/or drop what I am doing. I ususally try to ask if I could get a moment and that is often okej but I am now alone because SL and squad couldnt wait 90 seconds. There are more situations where if possible making sure the squad members move and wait in a way that keep all toghter is worth a litle extra time. Most often people or fireteams split up more and more the longer the match goes and coms becomes chaos while the squad breaks up to sections on the map with morals broken down were no orders are given or asked for. 90 seconds or 300m can make a diffrennce in this game. Also, make clear orders for when and how to engage. Not only because Im new and hitting targets is hard. Having everyone start shooting at this one head sticking upp 200m away when you know there are 6 sneaking around is stupid. Even more so if they dont know you are around. Experienced players with good aim can be as bad as noobs and quilty to this. Have only played one game of my 70hours where this dicipline where in effect and it makes a BIG differnece. And for anyone reading no mather role. I really like being a medic and want to learn this class. If I tell you to stay down or tell you something else while reviewing, there is a reason for me to say this thing and if you I ask you to drag or smoke when you and me are up and we are pined downed and 5 around us are down, consider doing it if feasible instead of being shoot down again.

I've noticed a lack of competent SL's lately, so that's why I want to step up. I've tried it in the past but quickly got overwhelmed due to poor command and an unresponsive squad. The other problem is, despite nearly 200 hours play time, I still have no idea what layers are which and how they're going to pan out. It didn't even occur to me that I could request FTL in order to get some practice while under the leadership of a more experienced SL, or simply just locking the squad with smaller numbers. I think I'll definitely give that a try

After watching this video I tried SL-ing. One thing I had trouble with, that I didn't see addressed - Radio settings! As squad leader you have so many more people talking to you, and I often couldn't hear what people were saying. You've got command radio, squad radio, and local voice, AND you're under fire.... Any tips?
@Gorlami144 жыл бұрын
I'm glad someone brought this up. I definitely should have touched on it and that's an oversight on my part, but I think for radio settings there's no right or wrong way to do it so its difficult for me to really give any exact advice. I think as you play you make adjustments based on your experiences. If you feel like you can never hear your squad because command comms is too loud then turn them down. You'll just have to play around with it until you get to a point where you feel like you can hear the things you need to without them being overpowered by the other channels. You can also assign command and squad comms to either your left or right ear to separate them. I don't do this cause it honestly made me feel nauseous while playing. I hope this helps you.

But, even &^%$_boi can be said, because I will just order, boi. :-) I'm always doing that as just a squad member, using just a part of a name to communicate. NOTE: Players not in a 'clan' can preface their name. Meaning, if you want what may be a popular name, you can preface it with any 2 to 3 initials... [??]... [???]. Just some thoughts. Feel free to educate me on the matter.

All of the social and leading aspects are embarrassing and unnecessary. Really, seeing SL ordering you like its RP keeping his confidence while doing dumb shit is ridiculous. Not even trying to mention how sometimes the guy doesn't have SL kit but still trying to give orders. The game of high contrasts, while you are a member of the squad 80 % your SL will do kinky stuff out of the objective and when you are leading noone on the whole squad gets your idea of playing objective and building infrastructure. Placing FOB at the open while there's a building nearby is a war crime, placing it inside and not fortifying its perimeter or entrance with at least 2 lines of barbed wire is also war crime. Having just 1 ammo crate per FOB you usually see near the HAB is war crime too, and all the mass around consider running 1km to the HAB for ammo is fine. The FOB build radius is always ignored... So I beg of you to place as many ammo crates as you can - radius edge, firing positions, medium covers, repair station and so on.
@Jonusbiker2 жыл бұрын
100% disagree with the no mic thing. Yes a mic helps but your fine without it too. If you can hear and see the map your good. No reason to push people away from the game but kicking them. Really making the game not fun to play for ALOT of people. Not hard to be nice lmao.
