Good video of the comparison of the GORUCK GR1 USA and Vietnam, I have three bags in my list I like the Goruck GR2 34L, TripleAughtDesign EDC and RECYCLED FIREFIGHTER THE BATTALION 24HR but the GORUCK is lowering the quality on the page now they manufacture it with 500D Cordura already It is not made of 500D Cordura I think they are lowering the quality and increasing the price

@@luisramosyoungbloke1232 I also like the new GORUCK GR2 26L but with this change I think it will no longer be on the list of first I will hope that it is but I think it is not on the right track, exactly I hope it does not go the same way as 5.11

Loose threads from where the tie off of the stitch is pretty normal to get new from most bags. It normally doesn't affect the structural integrity of the stitch, its just a sloppy cut after the tie off.

I agree, the Vietnam bags don’t break in like the USA ones. I’ve rucked so many miles in my Nam ruck and it’s just as stiff as the day I bought it.

Really good comparison! One thing I'll say is you'll see variations even in the American made bags batch to batch. I had lunch with a couple of friends recently who both have GR1s made 2 years apart.. both American made and a lot of the differences you mentioned here were present between their two, ie, the straps. I would say if you grabbed 30 random american made GR1s you'd fine variations in them all especially depending on their batch. For me, I have a Slick GR1 and a Vietnam GR1 and a lot of what you say here holds try with them aside from the strap part. The straps on the slick seem to have the same foam for sure so I wonder if they didn't just change up their supplier or "recipe" or whatever. Hard to say. Also, the loose threads. I seem to have a lot more on the two week old Slick than on the much older Vietnam GR1. Weird stuff! All in all, interesting topic nonetheless ;)

I just bought a goruck gr1 usa made and there aren't any loose threads and the zippers are smooth. Weird...

I'm sad to hear that the zippers never broke in on your Vietnam made bag. I have a GR0 from way back and the zippers are smooth as butter, and I recently bough a Vietnam made GR2 and my biggest complaint is how stiff the zippers are.

You sound pretty bias towards the Vietnam made bag. I’ve got both myself and they are the exact same. As for the color it could just be the batch. I see no difference in mine. What I’d agree with you are the straps on the Vietnam ones are thicker. One could say they even distribute and carry heavier weight better. We need to really not let the placebo effect on USA made products effect our decision on quality. If supporting USA made is your end goal, be honest about it. If anything, Vietnam is the leading country to make high end bags. Practically all boutique manufacturers like GoRuck, Evergoods, etc.. make their bags there.

Not sure if he's biased, but agree with what you are getting at. Vietnam is a top-maker of soft goods, and I have outstanding bags that have been made there, while I've had American-made bags that show their wear and tear. The US flag on a product does not automatically equate with quality. It certainly does equate with a higher price tag. Just my two cents.

Interesting. I just bought one on their site and after using it at home I was surprised at the poor zippers because typically #10 ykk are like butter. I really wasnt blown away by the bag and after seeing this video I realized it was a vietnam version...I didnt know. When I went to return it I couldnt because you cant return sale items. GoRuck for me has turned out to be a no go which is sad because Im a first responder.

@@Burritosarebetterthantacos Good YKK zippers take time to break in. YKK (a Japanese company) zippers are made in Georgia and in October of 2019 they opened a plant in Vietnam. The zippers should be of same quality as quality isn’t determined by where it’s made but the decision of the company on the manufacturing process in itself. i.e. iPhones are made in China but are considered of high quality. Food for thought - When you have 80% of the worlds items made in China, statically you’re going to have a high chance of bad products as well. That’s the nature of the beast.
