@@varinsawh6634 It was exciting for a small company in Dallas (DNA Productions) to be offered this job, knowing it would be aired nationally, and more amazingly it was a Matt Groening production. The Simpsons had been airing about ten years, so his stature was well-established by then. He was a nice guy, and spent about a week in Dallas during production, I think. One day we all were invited to have him autograph Simpsons books or other things, which he was glad to do.

@@varinsawh6634 I should also mention that this is 3D (CG) animation, but the characters were designed to look 2D, to imitate the style of illustrations in the book on which it is based. The characters we were animating were flat, meaning we could not rotate them (relative to the camera) or that flatness would have been apparent. There were a few scenes where a character HAD to rotate, which required a special 3D rig be built for that one scene -- if I'm remembering right. The scene that comes to mind is the one with Martini rolling around in the mail truck.

Everytime when December comes and Christmas is around the corner I always keep up a tradition of watching this special every year as it's such a true blue ultimate classic as it was just absolutely and positivity constructed perfectly from the very beginning to the end as it never gets old. Even as a adult I can't help but smile and felt heartfelt as it strikes up nostalgia as it brings back special childhood memories and moments that I endure joy and happiness as it makes me cherished and loved them forever. 😍😎💯👍😏⛄🦌🤶🎅🎄🎁❄️

Olive’s such a heart warming dog, it really warms you up on the inside to hear her be so relentlessly optimistic. Some of these characters sound familiar, and I must say that the Post Man is really creepy looking, just like Huckleberry Hound from boomerangs short known as Sound Hound.

What's amazing about this airing is that this CONFIRMS the scenes from the VHS weren't included and that Nick, Cartoon Network AND the DVD were using the original broadcast cut from the start! Of course, knowing the VHS is longer, that has now become my preferred viewing option (watching it later this week). But anyway, thank you and to the person who recorded this for this wonderful nugget of history for one of the best Christmas specials ever made. :)

One of my favorites! I am just sorry this didnt catch on as an annual favorite 😞 I watch it every year. I have an Olive the other Reindeer Tree. I bought some ornaments that Nordstrom sold I bought a few Olive ornaments, along with a Martini ornament... then I later bought a USPS Truck Ornament from Olde Tyme ornaments and made a Tree! It looks awesome.

Soo...funny fact: I was not aware of the fact that this special initially aired on FOX in 1999 until I looked it up online. (but I DO remember seeing the DVD cover at Walmart many years ago, lol). First time I saw it was when it was put it on Nickelodeon (in 2001). And then Cartoon Network for the following years to come, lol. PS, this is one of my favorite Christmas specials, period.

Maybe I'm overthinking, but there's just something symbolic about this Matt Groening-produced Christmas special originally airing _exactly_ 10 years to the day after the original airing of the very first full episode of The Simpsons, itself a Christmas special and the first of many Christmas-themed episodes for the show. It's also quite a coincidence that Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire ends with the début of Santa's Little Helper, the family dog, and the main character of Olive the Other Reindeer is also a dog, who _literally_ becomes "Santa's little helper" to save Christmas. I'm convinced that the casting of Dan Castellaneta in this special must've been at least somewhat intentional to pile on the coincidences. Mr. Groening was the perfect person to produce this Christmas special. I've just realised that I should've posted this comment yesterday as that was both the 25th anniversary of the original airing of Olive the Other Reindeer and the 35th anniversary of the first airing of Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire. Oh well. 😅 TL;DR *Me:* "[gasp!] Did you hear that? What a name! Olive the Other Reindeer... It's a sign! It's an omen!" *Everyone else:* "It's a coincidence." Olive The Other Reindeer was made by the Curiosity Company the same company as Futurama and was also made by DNA Productions that made jimmy Neutron tv show and the jimmy movie. DNA Productions closed in 2006 because The Ant Bully failed in the box office.

I understand that Drew Barrymore is & was the voice of Olive the sweet doggy here played the role of a girl character named Gertie from the Steven Spielberg Film E.T. The Extraterrestrial years ago back in 1982. I also know that there were few others in the cast that were with her, Among them is & was Peter Coyote who played a Scientist AKA Government Agent named Keys. I heard that he was originally going to be Indiana Jones for the movie series before Harrison Ford got the role as Indiana Jones instead. I also heard that he also Narrated one of my favorite Animal Documentaries. Here are the 2 examples he narrated that I can only think of. “Killer Crocs of Costa Rica” from The Discovery Channel slash Wild Discovery in 2003 & “T.Rex Walks Again” from National Geographic in 2009. Hmm? Did he also narrate on a PBS Documentary called “the living edens: kakadu, australia's ancient wonderland”?

And undoubtedly, this wonderful Christmas film will continue on making every Christmas the most wonderful time of the year for another 25 years to come, especially when the film turns 100 years old by the end of the 21st century by the future date of Thursday, December 17, 2099. And around that year, 22 days before Olive the Other Reindeer's 100 year anniversary, by the future date of Wednesday November 25th, 2099, I will turn 100 years old! I think it has actually aged quite well doing it in this style. Normal CGI on a TV budget from 1999 would look horribly dated today but making it look like a cartoony like pop up book was a good choice in the long run.
