I study a combined style but our self defense is very heavily influenced by jiu-jistu. Training can never be "real" but in some tests I've gone full out at people with fake knives and they tore me apart with some of these moves so I can attest with alot of confidence that if you train this way (really hard) you can survive which in the end is your primary goal. lol You guys are really great too i've watched your vids through like 4 times lol

Very good. I train in the UK and have been training since last June. I understand that these techniques shown must taken a very long to perfect.

good techniques! only one thing i would point out to work on--with the gun defense, make sure you are getting COMPLETELY offline of the gun before going into the disarm.

With respect to the gun disarms, the head instructor used to work tactical response and several of the instructors are also former/current policement and have extensive weapons training. They have gone to the extent of actually doing these techniques with real weapons, blanks, and wearing white ski masks to track the flash residue. All weapons disarms are inherently dangerous, but they do work.

Not bad at all. Very impressive. Also, Uke: "put your hands up!", Tori: "Drop it!", After showing up the wimp using the firearm, knife or bat. Funny really, people assume that a weapon makes them stronger. Not necessarily, it does give you an advantage but nonetheless, the human body is the greatest weapon, being so versatile and elegant in it's ability to break bones, strangle you, throw you and kill you in pretty much any way that it can.

I'd say that the gun disarms/controls are risky, but 100% doable, however, when you have a knife on your throath and especially if you are attacked from behind, the technique used at 0:38 is dangerous. The opening technique, a couple of stanbs, is good, i'd like to see more like that because in real lfie, you never see an attacker only do 1 move or you able to catch his arm at the first move.

Good realistic attacks makes for good realistic defences.

It's a bit counter-intuitive because you're going *into* the swing. You have to be fast, obviously, but if you're going to get hit it's better to be hit closer to the handle than the tip of the bat, because the tip has more energy from the swing.

Fantastic. That is some of the best performed defense against weapon i have ever seen. Do the knife have a blunt or sharp edge?

Great video guys, lots of similarities to the dojo I attend (nihon jujitsu/ kodokan judo). And just to point out, any time a weapon is involved... yes its dangerous. So anyone who critizes these defenses just think, whats a better idea getting stabbed for sure? Or maybe not getting stabbed?

@8ringsofshaolin This has come up before on the thread. You need to train to the best approximation of "street intensity". Nothing will happen exactly as you trained for it, but the best you can do train for as many scenarios as possible, with the highest (but safest) intensity. If you lollygag through the techniques or your uke doesn't present himself as a threat, then that's not going to turn into effective practice.
@hillcrestjujitsu13 жыл бұрын
@mick2slick In short, doing it at this speed at least some of the time every class is important. Start slow and ramp it up. If you don't train for the way you need to do it "for real" you won't be able to do it when you need it.

Finally a defence video that uses realistic attacks with realistic weapons. There's too much fake and pre-practiced rubbish out there, Goshin Jitsu looks the most effective system i've seen yet based on this video.

@LHSStuntman knife defenses are *extremely* dangerous and only used as a last resort. Most of the stabs in this video are of the "emotional attack" variety, because a tactical knife fighter isn't going to be using wide sweeping and overt moves, unless you're already bleeding out and defenseless. The best defense against somebody with a knife is space (more space is better), and an object (such as a stick). That said, as you can see all stabs are still done at full speed and the blocks hurt.

Great to watch these, I do a form of kempo ju jitsu which im guessing is similar, a lot of strikes into vital areas before the takedowns. I think the only technique we vary is the one at 0.46 with vertical knife attack with icepick grip because of the risk of the knife being jerked back and slashing your forearm open. The black guy in the video gets behind the weapon a lot too hes got some real nice movement behind the weapon, might just be the choice of attacks though. Real nice videos thanks!
@hillcrestjujitsu16 жыл бұрын
One more thing... most of the knive disarms are against the "emotional attack" variety. If you are up against somebody that really knows what they are doing with a knife, you'd either have a knife of your own (or a gun), a stick, a large object between you (table), or a lot of space (running very fast would be a good idea). The instructors make this very clear in class, knife attacks are incredibly dangerous. Unarmed knife defense is a last resort.

With respect to 0:38, a critical part of that technique is the rear left elbow. Without that loosen, this bad situation gets much, much worse. You might not be able to see it, but the uke certainly feels it. With respect to the repeated stabs, this technique is under-represented in this video, but it's a critical "spacing" drill we do with knives.
@hillcrestjujitsu13 жыл бұрын
@No1Agge The shiny one has a sharp point, but blunt edge. There's "crazy" and then there's "completely insane." We try to avoid the latter.

Hey can ask, I was wondering if you guys could make some in depth instructional videos on this. It's really cool and useful. I took a few MMA classes but they were mostely brawl and not meant for defense against a weapon.

You are welcome. I forgot to ask, where are you located? I'm in Akron, Ohio. I also wanted to say that when I used to compete (self defense competitions only) we almost got disquieted for doing our demonstrations at that speed. But I believe that once your at a certain level you should be able to move the way you guys move. Very enjoyable!
@brentshiver77715 жыл бұрын
Agreed, thats one of the techniques we use in my dojo. Another one I like is if its an overhand swing... like the are trying to brain you on top of your head... step in close and o uchi gari as you palm heel strike or elbow.

Nice techniques again. Not sure about the firearms ones; but still I guess it'd be worth a try if they're going pull the trigger!
