With over a dozen Grand American rings to his name this ATA Hall of Famer has a reputation as a great communicator in sharing the knowledge that he has learnt about the fundamentals and mechanics of trap shooting that you need to understand to become a champion in his sport.

Very articulate well thought out explanations of both the mental and physical and technical aspects of ATA. As usual great interview. Based on this interview Harlan is a great communicator as well as a great competitive shooter. In ATA they compete regardless of conditions. You have to be one very tough individual to succeed. I know this from personal experience.

Great interview the mans a machine I met him a couple of years ago when krieghoff brought him to the uk he was in one of the shoot offs we had on singles nervous was a under statement when I see him on the squad great guy and great shooter 👍👍

really nice to hear the interveiw lots of informative information as Canadain it was feather ruffling that the convesation of a forgneir winning at major title at the grand did even get to hear Patrick Lamonts name seeing how our Canadain has won all five major events at the grand

I think Harlan considers Canadians as "locals". The question probably was more related towards shooters from the UK, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.

Automatic Ball Trap versus Olympic Trap Greetings from the USA Fantastic interview Mr Campbell is an example for all us American trap shooters. My question is for Russel: do you believe ABT can be a great training for OT? Looking at the ABT rules and angles layout, it seems here in the USA we can easily set up a machine to throw ABT in one of our many empty trap houses. If ABT is more difficult, wouldnt OT shooters train more at ABT? Please tell me what do u think? Thanks so much

Hi Michael. I think ABT is "good" cross training for OT, but not "great". The reality is that to better simulate OT you would need to shoot your ABT training only off station 3 to better simulate the angles and stances required for OT. The biggest drawback is that ABT targets are all propelled at the same speed whereas OT have different speeds (however slightly) for all 15 machines. ABT is better than just winding up a American Trap machine.

Michael its a dilemma you face because you need to get used to the targets travelling 76 metres. I think you should have a look at the Derrick Mein interview. He faced the same problem.

To be frank, I expected more! He’s obviously very accomplished and has optimized the various aspects and the mechanics of the game for HIMSELF but he’s no great and concise communicator nor can he respond to a straight question directly. Multiple times he was asked a straight black or white question and he goes round and round without answering the question. He was asked specifically about gym and psychologist and he never answers the question. And there were other instances… regardless thank you and a great interview!
