I believe if M said it had been almost 50 years since his Master left it would have been 1936 or so

Just before master M's death in 1932. Somewhere in 1931 or 1932 most probably. In the talk itself, it is said that, Brunton writes in the footnote that very soon after his meeting, M passed away, hence it has to be 1932 or at the most 1931
