Paraphrasing Brigham Young, "if Mormons want all truth they must find some of it outside of Mormonism". This principal was taught by both Joseph and Brigham. It has been part of Mormonism from the beginning, yet most of us completely miss it. An important element in this process was described by Stephen Covey in Habit 5 in his Seven Habits of Highly Effective People--Seek First to Understand and Then to be Understood. This discussion is a great help in my pursuit of these ideals. Thank you.

Love this conversation, especially 13:00-15:00. As Goethe famously stated, "A man who does not know a foreign language is ignorant of his own." And yet, there is also something so special about your native language. Even converts to and from other faiths hold so much knowledge and tradition from their first faith that they benefit from drawing upon.

Oh, I love this discussion. I am into meditation myself and it has been an intriguing and enlightening journey so far. Hearing the experience of a fellow brother incorporating different spiritual tradition along with the Latter-Day faith is amazing. His insight is so valuable!

Excellent! As the scripture says "seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom...." D&C 88:118

Incredible conversation. My heart can't help but to feel pierced by the idea of 'stay in your faith of origin' because it strikes me as a thing straight people can say, because they are allowed to stay and still have a partner. They are allowed to stay and still be who they are. And so I want the nuance of that -- I want the nuance of the reality of the inability ot stay for people outright not permitted to stay. And I say all of that with like such deep respect for this work, and a deep sadness that my faith of origin does not feel like an actual option for me -- despite it being the very essence of my ancestral body and spirit.

I absolutely love this discussion with Thomas. I think you are both such good interviewers and ask questions that can bring so much question in my own heart and mind and I feel your spirits as well as Thomas' spirit so strongly every time I see/hear him. How grateful I am for this wonderful podcast. Lots to think about as I try and sleep now. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for this podcast. For me, it is a catalyst to seeking the path for truth and understanding, as far as I am able do so. My gratitude to you for this gift and for all your hard work.

"if Mormons want all truth they must find some of it outside of Mormonism" This quote represents one of the few things Brother Brigham said with which I totally agree. The question is why don't more members of the LDS church agree and preach this idea. We sit in our "little" bubble and are threatened by all of the other truths that are out there in the (dangerous term) the world. So, what am I to think when GAs say we aren't to doubt and that he/they know? The ideas around sin and suffering are enlightening. Suffering as the source of sin and the committing of sin is the drug that takes away the pain of the suffering, but then the sin becomes suffering too. I completely agree about the certitude of members that we've got this covered being an alienating barrier not only to our own progression but to the joining with other sources of truth (Buddhism for one) that might open doors that we have closed by saying "I know."

It is because the Mormon members are brainwashed by the church leaders today NOT TO EXPLORE OUTSIDE THE CULT RELIGION.

My only disappointment is looking and seeing that this has only been viewed by a few thousand people. I have shared it to everyone I know :)

I'm fascinated. This mirrors some of my own current faith journey, How do you borrow some of these traditions without it feeling like cultural appropriation?

This sounds like the Bahai Faith which has a more encompassing doctrine than LDS. Religious pluralism. The LDS does have very inclusive doctrine of this but it's hidden away and not taught at the pulpit. Replaced by "I know the church is the one true church".
