I'm a guitar player seeking instruction on theory and harmony. Been playing professionally 35 years, always trying to learn something I can apply to my bag of tricks. I have watched a few of your videos and as much as possible applied it to guitar, which presents some wonderful challenges to my chord and voicing chops as well as spurred my imagination and creativity to new places. Great information, well articulated and immediately useful. Great teaching brother! Thank you.

Wow, such a great and efficiently packed lesson. I love how you take it step-by-step in levels, so not only does it increase with difficulty but also we can see the logic of how ideas are built upon the previous ones and learn from that. Love those crunchy chords! Thanks Jonny

What’s your usual thought process for how you tend to voice your piano chords? Is there any particular reason you sequence the notes in a particular way? Thanks :)

I - vi - IV - V Passing chords I - III - vi - I IV - V I - V Add 7ths Spread out the chord Add the slip 2 Slip off the 2nd note in the chord. Use the "slip note" on every 2nd chord. Add the Money Notes E13(b9) C9 G9(sus4) Put It All Together Bonus chord G7(b13, #9) To improvise over the progression, you can use the major blues scale. C-D-D#-E-G-A (can use it over all the chords). Scale spelling: I - ii - ii# - iii - V - vi.

I was confused when you went from the basic progression to the passing chords. The basic is I vi IV V. Once you start inserting the 5 passing chords to the original progression, wouldn't it go to I III7 vi I IV II V before the cycle repeats?

Type in Chord extensions and alterations on Google. They happen a lot on guitar too. You might see something like D7b5, in this case you make a D7 chord n lower the fifth by a half step. It alters the D7 chord somehow, in this I think it's important to let the ear lead and theory follow. Here He's doing the same, alterations are more about what sounds good and voice leading imo. If you think of which note goes to where it's easier to get why alterations work But that's just for me. 🤷🏾♂️👌🏾 Good luck
