But the original also aired before social media really blew up, so the gossip girl part of the show was new and strange and a gossip site. But now we have drama channels and commentary channels on YT that report everything that happens. so This one can show that gossip girl is all of us, since we share so much on social media and its so easy to snap pictures ect. So its certainly modernized to the current time. Because when OG GG aired, the Iphone was barely in play 🤣🤣

I kind of agree but at the same time it’s more realistic, this generation is constantly playing a “character” due to social media, especially young rich socialites like them, they’re always hiding something behind a facade and you’re never sure who they really are, the previous GG didn’t have such a strong social media presence and so characters were more like the common person that we can relate to since aside from GG they didn’t have their every move watched and broadcasted. It means that the movie or series advertised or published was made solely in-house. The show itself is a Max Original, but that doesn’t mean they are taking credit for the idea of Gossip Girl, it’s what streaming services use for their titles, people just look for any reason to complain. Pretty Little Liars is listed as a Netflix Original outside of the US, because originally it was exclusive to Netflix in many countries outside of the US, it has nothing to do with owning the idea or premise of the show, it’s owning the distribution and in this case the production of the show.

The difference in networks. CW will never have the quality that HBO does which is a network that has always produced shows with solid cinematography that make their show's episodes feel like movies. I adore the OG gossip girl but could you imagine what it could have been if it had been on a better channel? How those darker storylines would have been handled? I mean literally anything with Chuck would feel like there was more depth. I'm excited to see how the reboot handles things.

@@seannanana84 true but I think the appeal with og gg was that there were a lot of shady stuff going on among this whole upbeat atmosphere. plus there’s way too many dark shows, it’s one of the first teen shows that was able to mix comedy with mystery. that energy is so comforting in my opinion because you don’t need to mentally prepare yourself for anything extremely dark.

There's so many hate comment, like I understand why. I love the og gg too, i grew up watching it. And to tell you the truth I prefer the og rather than this reboot. ( I already watched it, currently in ep4) But the show isn't that bad. Its okay. Give it a shot first before bombarding with hate comments. We all know No one can beat the ORIGINAL. I hope there will be an improvement in the story line, and the characters.

I'll definitely give this a chance, but it feels like it lacks a certain soul that the original had. Don't get me wrong, the original had a lot of problems, but it seems like it had a more unique and cohesive aesthetic (in terms of costuming, sets) and a bit of humour to lighten up the heavy drama. Whereas this just feels like a cheap facsimile of other, better current teen shows. I'll reserve my full opinion for when I watch the first episode!

The custom designer from OG GG came back for this so I have a feeling that will be on point like the original. Actually a lot of the creators ended up coming back for the reboot which is cool makes it less like a knock off and more like a new era of kids.

Agreed. I've seen people say our problem with it is they're making this show diverse etc but I don't think so. I don't even think it's anything specific? It's just-- the vibe is not there. This is easily just another trendy 20s show about rich kids. And that would be okay if it stood on its own but to directly link it to GG and then have none of the OG vibes ... If you actually did your research, you would know safran was the executive producer of the original producer gossip girl series which includes everyones favourite characters such as Blair, serena, nate etc.. I’m also not American and I really love this show by the way and just so you know, this show is written in a different time period. The teenagers in todays current society are entirely different than the ones who aired on gossip girl an entire decade ago. I personally suggest you put those last desecrating brain cells in your decaying brain to use and start prioritising your critical thinking skills and how it is currently lacking.
