it always felt like she thought she deserved everything the main characters had because they would do/have anything they wanted regardless of how shitty they could be and in her mind she was "better" than them. Her character was important to show that even "good" or "well meaning" people can be loathsome. Vanessa was the antithesis of Blair- Even seemingly snobbish and vindictive people can be sensitive and warm-hearted; ~and~ Chuck- Even the most vile, horrible type of person can find redemption and even love. This is what good story telling is about- the plot twist. We all thought Blair was going to be the villain- but she turned out to be the hero in many ways. We thought Vanessa would be the good girl but she ended up falling from grace. She was written to be hated. And as far as her wardrobe- Again, she was meant to be the embodiment of everything Blair hated...down to the style, so...

Their is a definite bias among the Western culture that is only now starting to be adressed. Hollywood does have a prefrence and has used natrual hair as a trope in the past. I'm rewatching it (more like watching it because I don't think I ever made it to season 2 lol) and yeeah I hate her so much more this time ^^ of course all of the characters are terrible people but at least they're honest about who they are. Vanessa and Dan's family are just hypocrites. They pretend they hate this world but who was Dan obsessed with since forever ? Who does Rufus call every time he's single ? (it's almost a bit stalker-ish how often he tries to go after Lily)... and little Jenny (second most annoying person on the show) who tries so hard to impress/replace Blair.. The most pathetic part of all of this is Vanessa doesn't even go to their school, she could easily stay far away from all of it and just hang out with Dan but somehow she always finds a way to get involved (and causes a ton of drama because she's so nosy but always acts innocent). She's a hipster who thinks she's better than everyone else even though she clearly wants to be like them and it's super annoying. Plus she's just not funny, everything she says has to be snarky, she tries to so hard to be clever but she makes me cringe every time. Yeah, especially when she was setting Serena up to first be portrayed as a woman making out with two men at a single party and Serena ends up in a seedy motel heavily drugged. Or pulling all sorts of other BS.

The Nuharoo Shes done a few fucked up things. but still nothing at all worse than what other characters have done and we forgave them for. and btw vanessa didnt know about juliet drugging serena. vanessa just wanted to get revenge and sabotage Serena from having Dan and Nate because everybody threw her under the bus so many times in the past

Serena could have been killed. Vanessa had no legitimate reason to hate on Serena; Vanessa never had a history with the East Side set and there was no reason for Vanessa to start something at a birthday bash that Vanessa was crashing. She had a history with Dan, but that NEVER means that it was his job to not try to find happiness if he was happy with Serena. She has no business trying to claim him and disrupting his life and mouthing off to all and sundry. Vanessa damaged Nate's chance to get his old life back and she did nothing but give trouble.

TBH I didn't hate her until season 4 where she tamed up with Juliet. And when it was all said and done, she blamed it all on Jenny as if she wasn't as involved as she was.

Vanessa is the kind of character that I like, but is a necessary evil to most people she seems to act too morally good and irritates people, but I like her character and others like it because people need to realize that the kind of behavior that goes on in this show like the deceptive backstabbing isn't ok or to provide a moral center for both the characters and the audience.
