This is great info. I got the sungo go and got the regular and electric tube. I will mainly use the regular and save the electric for only night time.
@123Homefree2 ай бұрын
Im curious to also test using the electric tray for just electric cooking if it will preserve the plastic and adhesive. The electric function is too helpful to just abandon the whole electric tray idea theres gotta be better ways to apply it or work with it maybe designated trays is a way?

Perhaps a wide layer of Kapton tape over the element area would help? Not entirely sure about whether it's food safe but has a fairly wide temperature range.

Fresnel lens could be an alternative

Hard to control but with the right materials I suppose it's a good homemade solar oven option

Alternative to what? Alternative to the solar evacuated tube cookers?! No its not as efficient/insulative for year round use or as compact portable or easily deployed setup.
@franklawrence12322 ай бұрын
@@123Homefree Yeah, you definitely know better than I. It’s just a fun idea to think of cooking your food with a magnifying glass. At this point I’m waiting to see you invent a DIY gosun.

@@123Homefree I cook with Fresnel lenses and agree this isn't the portable all year round solution you need. If someone's interested how that looks like and how the food turns out, I have some videos / shorts

Good luck welding it. I think it will be quite difficult.
@123Homefree2 ай бұрын
Why? You think the 2 trays are too thin for me to not burn through? Seems its just a little more delicate of a job not bad though.
@bobsmith50882 ай бұрын
@@123Homefree Yeah, a thin material. And I think it is stainless, which is harder to weld. Also, if the metal gets too hot while welding, the plastic element will melt.
@bobsmith50882 ай бұрын
@@123Homefree I had a thought for what might be a better design. Start with something like the sun kettle, fully enclosed. Then put the heating element on the outside of the kettle, then slide the cooking tray inside the kettle. This way the element is fully separated from the cooking chamber, and you don't have to weld near the plastic that could melt, and also could help control mess and spills, and ease of cleaning.

Something you don’t mention that could be useful to others who have these Gosun powered stoves is how much of your cooking is with power and how much is with sun… Would be nice to learn how you are using it in terms of what you are cooking, how full the trays are when cooking etc. Honestly, it’s time you got a bigger stove anyway considering how much you like these… there are a bunch of brans selling the same (larger) solar stoves on Amazon, mine was KeCop and they run from $175 to $225 but are identical. They will fit mini-loaf pans, which allows you to cook more than one thing at a time and keeps the mess in the stove to a minimum. Gosun is closing out their temperature probes for $19 right now and I *highly* recommend you get one of these, especially if you cook a lot of meat. Perfect every time and you don’t have to keep opening your tube on days that aren’t perfectly sunny to check on the food. It makes these solar stoves much more practical to use because it takes the guess work out. No mods to the stoves to use the temperature probe either, the cord goes thru the steam vent hole.
@123Homefree2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the probe tip that sounds useful fir $19. I dont want any larger of a solar oven this ones already borderline too large.

Hope your good at welding because it will be hard to weld two bits of thin metal without blowing holes in it but hope you can it both my son's are welders
@123Homefree2 ай бұрын
You and probably your sons too are assuming the stereotyped way of welding that looks pretty but requires constant contact which overheats the metals, if people werent so addicted to social approval theyd faafo that just momentarily making contact and tacking welds all the way across sheetmetal works easily. Welders tried to discouraging me from learning to weld my whole life turns out they were all just so insecure they wanted to overcomplicate the process fir me so theyd stay a bigger welder in a smaller pond. Welders talk to people who dont wanna weld in the same way like “its so hard to weld sheet metal” ya if youre stuck in the mentality you have to weld it with a consistently layed artistic puddle of molten metal, you dont especially for welding sheet metal that has NO load bearing. Im gonna make a welding video exposing the whole industry for other citizens who would otherwise be encouraged to learn to weld their own metalobject job needs themselves without being made to feel they need to pay an arm and leg to their local golem gatekeeping welders. 😂
